I REALLY do not like getting flipped off

Its funny you brought this up. Just today someone flipped off my FIL and the guy was so into flipping him off, that the guy wrecked into a barrier.

Next time it happens, blow them a kiss and smile. They don't really know what to do with that. ;)

Excellent recommendation - graciousness in the face of vulgarity always wins!

A former assistant pastor of our church used to tell us how he handles those who would flip him.

He would make sure that the other driver could see his collar, then he would make the sign of the cross in the direction of the other driver and mouth the words "Bless You".

He stopped doing this when one guy almost drove off the road after he realized he had flipped off a priest. LOL

I think that a person who flips you off if frustrated with something that they percieved you did and wants to communicate with you that they're frustrated with you.

On a lighter note, I was driving to work the other day on the highway, in the passing lane (doing 65 in a 55 I may add) when a car quickly came up behind me (must have been going 75ish). I looked in my rearview mirror and there were 2 young girls in the car. All of a sudden their heads started bobbing to the right - in unison - basically telling me to get over. While it was frustrating (because I was passing other cars at the time), I had to laugh - they looked so funny doing their head bob. :)

Oh, Ok.......is that what they're trying to do. Well, I guess it's OK then.:teeth:

Not unlike here sometimes on this board. Some responses from people at times make you wonder what's up with people

I've been wondering for quite some time now!:teeth:

I never know what to do when someone yells or makes gestures in traffic. They are usually the one who is in a hurry or just being rude. I did wave and smile as I went by:p when I saw someone who had been tail-gateing me get pulled over.

The only time I've been really puzzled about that kind of behavior, is when it was mistakenly directed at me, for something I didn't do! I was leaving the local Wally Mart parking lot. There was a young couple pushing a baby in a shopping cart, walking in the middle of the row toward their car, so passing cars could not get around. The car behind me did not know why I was driving so slowly, and honked at me. The man turned and yelled obscenities at me because he thought I was the one who honked - at him! It occurred to me that a person in that frame of mind was not going to be reasoned with, and I certainly was not going to apologize for something I didn't do, I just looked the other way, and drove on by.

I'm a believer in "what goes around comes around", so just let it go. I felt sorry for the baby, having a parent who is going to teach him to be just like dad.

No one on the Dis Boards has ever been rude to me. Mostly, I just get ignored

Usually people that flip you off in traffic stare straight ahead, they don't look at you,

I got flipped off when I wanted to get in the left hand lane to go around a slower car, and a car speed up in the left lane and blocked me in, then he flipped me off. "He must of thought I was going to pull out in front of him and cut off his flow of going 80."

....not a good idea in this day and age. Too many maniacs carrying guns who would not hesitate to blow you away for that kiss or wave. I know its hard to do ,but its safer to just ignore it and drive away. Living another day is much better than
taking the chance that the satisfaction you may get in pissing off some jerk, may end up costing you your life!

ITA.

If someone is angry enough to not be able to stop themself from making a very immature gesture of rudeness to a complete stranger, they are could potentially be in a pretty unstable state of mind.

For your own safety, and your kids safety, ignore it. Trying to piss them off could make it worse, much worse. Don't risk it.

I agree with the road rage factor. Anyone nuts enough to flip you off, is nuts enough to do something else. And, as you say, it is that anonymity factor that lets them do it in comfort. Not unlike here sometimes on this board. Some responses from people at times make you wonder what's up with people, but for some, they are faceless, no consequence.

Best is to ignore.

I think the part about being faceless sort of applies to cars too. Behind the wheel, people feel powerful. Here they are, this small person, controlling a large vehichle that could kill someone if they so chose.

I guess I'm either a decent driver or oblivious to people flipping me off :teeth: .

Good drivers get flipped off too, by the people who are upset that they are driving the speed limit instead of speeding through school zones.

This has happened to me several times. People FLY down my street which has several school bus stops and a church on it. The speed limit is 25. I refuse to speed and have had people pass me (it's a no passing zone) going at least 50.
