7,200 DVC villas to be added in next decade?
Written by Tim Krasniewski | November 24, 2009

Walt Disney World's governing body, the Reedy Creek Improvement District, is in the midst of updating its 10-year development plan for Florida state officials. The plan brings to light some interesting projections for Disney Vacation Club growth.

According to a story at TheDailyDisney.com--a site operated by the Orlando Sentinel--the new 10-year plan for Reedy Creek allows for as many as 8,900 new timeshare accommodations on Disney property. Of these 8,900, 19% are earmarked for the Flamingo Crossings project which is to be owned and operated by outside developers. The remaining 81% would represent about 7,209 new timeshare accommodations, presumedly falling under the Disney Vacation Club banner.

Over the previous 10 years the DVC room count increased by 2,927 units to a total of nearly 5,000 villas on Walt Disney World property. If the projected growth is realized, DVC would grow by 140% over the next decade to 12,000 villas at Walt Disney World alone.

It is important to note that these figures are projections only and there is no guarantee of this growth being realized. The previous 10-year plan, filed in 1998, forecast the addition of a fifth theme park by the year 2008.

Additional details and analysis can be found at The Daily Disney.

SO where do you all think they will build?

Yikes! And if they do all that developing without making new theme parks or improving the old ones....the crowds are going to be unbearable!!!:scared1:

:lmao: And we can all see how well that plan worked out! :rotfl: Perhaps they actually got this scoop from a bus driver? :confused3

I read the full article on the Daily Disney. Maybe someone understands projected growth can explain it better but this is as best as I can interpret.

It doesn't sound like they are saying they WILL build 7,200 rooms and a fifth theme park. It's just to let the government/city/whatever know that they have the potential to build those things and they will not build in excess of those things.

As noted by the PP, the estimate of 7,200 villas in 10 years represents the high end of the projected growth. The actual growth will probably be significantly less. Although 7,200 more DVC villas sounds high, how many people in 1998 thought that DVC would have VWL, BCV, SSR, AKV, and BLT operating at WDW in 2009? Or that DVD would sell points at $100/point, much less $120/point? Or that people are willing to pay those prices? It would be interesting to save this article and open it up in 10 years and see what really happens.

Two years back my son did a WDW internship. During orientation they were told that Disney is developing a 5th theme park. The theme -- Disney Villains.

The full 2008 RCID comprehensive plan is accessible here. It makes for an interesting read and is more informative then rumors.
