I think I have to wait till Nov to upgrade to a new phone, but I know by then or sooner if I can talk them into letting me upgrade since my Blackberry screen cracked in AK during our trip this month. I've been with Cingular/ATT for so many years seems silly they won't let you upgrade a little early when you have been with them for years.

I'm torn between the 16g & 32g. There is $100 difference and want to know if there is much of reason I should go with the larger. I do have a Ipod too, so not sure what I should do.

Also - What kind of calendar does it have? I used to have a PALM and used that all the time. The Blackberry really hasn't been syncing with my work Outlook. I don't have a Mac (although I would love one). Calendar and contact lists are pretty important.

Also what is a good APP for storing #s - Like passwords and things like that. Something that can be protected, but I can keep things like Acct #'s and stuff like that for me to see, but protected from others.

You can upgrade early sometimes. The only thing is that you will not get the full rebate price. The prices go by how long your current contract has been running for.
I have an iPhone 3G and I love the thing. The only thing that I can say is that if you get it, make sure that you get a case that will protect it. The silicone sleeves are nice, but they don't really do anything for it. I have an Otterbox for mine, and I tell everyone that I know who has an iPhone to get one. It may cost about $50, but it is worth every penny. I have dropped it in the parking lot, kicked it across the floor in stores, dropped it on my concrete porch and I have had no problems with my phone. There are other similar products that are cheaper, but I have not tried them. One of the guys I work with has the Otterbox as well and he swears by it also.
If you already have an iPod and won't really use the iPhone as one, then just get the 16GB model.
Hope this all helps.

This is so funny to me, cuz I just went thru the same thing!

I had an Ipod that I used for teaching Jazzercise everyday...my puppy Charlie chewed it, and 10 days later, it wont sync with my computer, and it skips songs.

My cell phone was ready for an upgrade. Ive had a palm (didnt like) and a Motorola Q (loved it!)

I called at & t cuz my contract was up in a week. 1 week. They would not let me upgrade. So, I waited the week and did some research on the iphone. I figured if I had to upgrade both, I was going for the all-in-one trick.

I have had the iphone for 2 days, and love it!! I got the 32GB one, because I wanted plenty of room for my music. AT & T said that this one would hold about 8,000 songs. I use the calendar, but I dont see where it loads anywhere on my computer. Everything so far that I've opened, has been self-starting and easy to understand!!

Im so happy with it, Im even considering that when my laptop needs replacing, Im going MAC!!

I hope - I'm going at lunch to talk to them. I dropped my bag at Disney on the ground and I was so worried about my camera (which was fine once I pushed the pop up flash back in). Then my mom called me at that exact moment-total shock since it only rang twice at Disney and I realized the screen was cracked. Luckily I wasn't too sad since I knew I wanted an I-phone.

Can't help much with your questions but I had to comment on the above. AT&T's upgrade rules stink. I have been a cingular/AT&T customer for 30 years and have had a family plan with four phones for 6-7 of those years. Last year one of my daughter's crappy but very expensive AT&T media phones literally fell apart. As in the side buttons fell off and some of the face buttons stopped working. This happened two weeks before she was due for an upgrade and AT&T refused to let us have the upgrade price even one day early. She was leaving for college before the two weeks were up and we needed to send her with a working phone. I appealed to every manager they would let me talk with in the store and then escalated it over the phone with absolutely no luck.

What I had to do was buy an iPhone by upgrading my number which was due for an upgrade then go to an AT&T store and have them switch her number to the iPhone and put my number back on my phone. I pointed how absolutely ridiculous this was but all I got was rules are rules we don't care how long you have been customer or that we are making you go through these steps for the diffence of only a week. Amazing!!

Sounds like I'm not going to have luck then. That stinks when you consider how loyal we are to them. Oh well, at least Nov is right around the corner. Maybe I'll call ATT before I drive to the store.

I went at lunch and I was eligable to get one on 11/4. I asked if there was anyway I could get one now and he said he would e-mail them. They came back via e-mail and said yes. So now I'm the brand new owner of a 3G S 36g Iphone. They only had the 36G, so it made my decision for me.

Now I have no idea what to do with this thing. I've got a huge learning curve.

I got an orange Frog cover for it - I might switch - not sure I like it.

He didn't seem to think the Otter box was that good - I'm going to think about it for another few hours I may switch the covers.

The 16 gb and 32 gb has the ability to take movies and make voice calls.

The quality of the movies are pretty good.

I'm glad they worked with you on speeding up the renewal plan. You'll love the iPhone. Maybe someone listened to all my pleading and complaining a year ago and they loosened their rules. It's about time someone at AT&T used their brains instead of just following a script.

Very cool!! I got the orange cover too!! You will love it!:woohoo:

Just wanted to add that if you have a Best Buy nearby go to them to get your accessories..... also please please get the Shield cover that goes over the screen.. it has been great you can't scratch the screen with your nails and if you drop it the screen doesn't get damaged.. it is great I have it on my Ipod and IPhone....have fun with your new phone

I ahve the 32G 3Gs iPhone and if I wasn't already married, I would marry it.

Some apps I really like... most are FREE

AccuWeather

Flixster Movies (lists all the theaters near your current location and movie times)

Shazam tells you what song is playing in the background

SnapTell Tells you what products cost buy taking pictures of them

Bubblewrap

Paper Toss

WaitWatchers Disney Appss

AAA Roadside

Google earth

WDW Dining

It's funny how different people have such different experiences.

We've been AT&T customers for oodles of years also and have upgraded early on numerous occasions - once almost 3 months early. They always drop the upgrade fees for us too and sometimes we get an extra charger or headphone set or something. :confused3

I agree- they aren't very consistant. I was hoping if I asked nice they would. It really was easy to convince them, lol.

I am so in love with this thing. So far I've downloadedU

Sparkpeople
USA Today
Phone Flix (Netflix
Kindle for Iphone
Fandango (for the movies) - it even looked up movies based on my current location and then would let me call them or buy tix - LOVE IT!
Direct TV - to record shows on my DVR :)
Discovery channel

I still obviously have so many more apps to add. I think DH is wanting one and he hates phones, lol.

If it helps clear some of the confusion up, I BELIEVE AT&T bases it's upgrade eligibility on how much your plan is with them. The more you pay per month, the quicker you can upgrade. I think it's only 18 months into a 2 year contract at the earliest, and it may be up to the whole 2 years. HTH!

I had gotten my Blackberry last year in June, so my 17 months was up on 11/4.
