.....the house did not have blue anywhere else. Does a blue door have some kind of meaning?

I don't know about the blue door people, but I've heard things about the red door people that would make your eyelashes curl.

My grey house has a blue door with no other blue because my decorator thought it would look good.

Sorry I didn't have a more exciting answer.:)

I'm sure there's simple explaination for the blue door...
Perhaps her husband has the tendency to wander home drunk late at night and the wife wants to make sure he stumbles into the right house. :confused3

My first thought was maybe the blue doors were on sale... or the builder got a volume discount?

Blue is a calm, serene color, Perhaps they are trying to invite that into their home?

What you probabaly saw was what some southern cultures refer to as "haint blue". It is relatively common in the rural areas of Georgia. It is said that painting your door this color with help ward off evil spirits. If I painted my door this color, I would be more worried about the "evil neighborhood association" spirits.:rotfl:

I would think a bright blue door would be better than my neighbor - bright blue house with a bright yellow door!!! :scared1:

I'm curious, too!

My parents have a bright red door, and when we were looking to repaint our house after purchase, lots of paint sample cards showed houses with bright red doors. :confused3

Incidentally, the color we changed it from was gray with a bright blue door. :)

Maybe it's for those times when they say, "...then make a right, go halfway down the block & turn into the drive on the left where you see a bright blue door. You can't miss it." :teeth:

Our house has a haint blue door, porch ceiling, soffits, trim, etc. It came this way, lol, and we were definitely told the story at some point. It's also the only one in the neighborhood though, and it sure stands out from all the other red brick houses, let me tell ya. :rotfl2:

Actually, it's not as bad as it sounds, it's not bright blue, it's more milky and subdued, sort of greyish and the rest of the accents are black.

I had read something about red doors being good luck in Feng Shui. I just looked it up and got this.

Q. "I've heard that painting my front door red will bring good luck. Is this true?"

A. If you'd like to bring new energy to your home, painting your front door a different color can help. Red is often recommended because in feng shui the color red is associated with success and prosperity, but that may not be the most appropriate choice for everyone. Choose a color that you like, that will be appropriate to the rest of the house exterior, and that supports your goals.

Black and dark blue are the colors associated with opportunities, social contacts, and career success.
Green is associated with wood energy, which is uplifting in nature. Lighter shades of green are associated with new growth and new beginnings; darker shades of green are associated with the energy of mature trees and forests. Both green and purple are associated with "fortunate blessings" which include (but are not limited to) financial prosperity.
Yellows and browns are associated with the stability of earth energy, but may not be the best choice for a front door, where you would like the chi to be more active.
White is associated with metal and creativity, but it will show dirt more clearly, so be sure to keep it clean.

It doesn't say anything about bright blue.

It means they have been watching too much HGTV. I swear, every show on there about selling homes says you should have a door that stands out from everyone else's. We have our home for sale and DH, the avid HGTV watcher, is now advocating we paint ours.

If he really wants it to stand out, maybe he should encase the front door in Mylar...

agnes!

Not sure, but in Northern Ohio a clay colored front door means you should leave $100 under the mat.

I'm just sayin'.
