Growing up, I camped at Ft Wilderness with my parents. While in my teens, they sold the camper and the trips were about every other year in the cabins. After my oldest daughter was born, we started going every year again, staying in the cabins. She will be 10 years old next month and both my parents and I now own campers. It is less expensive than the cabins and we use them a lot in Charleston also. Being less expensive, we tend to go a lot more. I wonder how many people stayed in the cabins, drove through the campground and ended up becoming campers? Campers are a very special breed of people, the nicest I have ever met. My husband never camped a day in his life and after a week at Disney, he is hooked on camping!

Hi, mrsgus!

We did exactly what you said--we stayed in the cabins and rented a golf cart for one day. We saw very quickly that the campers were having the real fun! We borrowed a travel trailer for one trip and were hooked! Now we just can't go enough so we are moving to Florida!!!

Lauren says to say hi to Logan! (I'm so tired of telling her that we can't go to see Logan at FW today! She knows it's a long way but she's willing!!)

Hi Campingcorgi!

It's good to hear from you! We have our dates set up for next summer, June 11 thru July 31. We hope to see you there and yes, Logan still asks for Lauren :p Hope you girls have a great Christmas!

Although we use our camper frequently, Fort Wilderness was one of the reasons we bought one. We had a pop up early in the 90s that didnt work well for us. After spending time at FW during trips to WDW we were hooked, so we stepped up to a 27 ft travel trailer and love it.

Work is just a temporary thing until the next vacation !

We camped a lot when I was a kid - in a tent - and I married a man who had NO interest in camping.

Well, at 40 with 2 small kids, I had the itch to go camping so I coerced hubby to take a chance. We tented twice but hubby had a tough time of it. I found that tenting wasn't what I remembered either (ooooo, my aching back!)

We couldn't find a place to rent a pop-up so we opened a pop-up rental business 2 years ago :flower: We camped at FW last week and had a blast.

I'm not sure I'd stay in the cabins...to me, when you're in Disney, you're spending most of your time at the parks. I don't like paying big bucks for a place I'm not using, you know?

Been camping there since I was a kid. Our entire family goes several times a year. Course we live in FL so its like our 2nd home. We have an RV.. FT W is the only place I like to camp. Except for doing the tour America west thing ala Clark Griswald. Actually we do the cabins too when we don't feel like taking the RV over for a short long weekend. Its SO much cheaper to rent a site. I remember the original FLeetwood trailer rentals and they were a whopping $50 a nite! LOL!

I feel like the commercial... Not only do I sell them I am a Camper as well... Ft Wilderness is by far the best camp ground I have ever been to. That being said there are a lot of very nice places to go and I love to camp in the White Mountains of NH and on the shore down the Cape....

We love to walk around the loops and see how people bring a little bit of home on the road with them. And this time of year it is fun to see the "Battle" of the xmas decorations from site to site...

Oh goodie -i get to tell our "how we came to buy a pop up and become campers" story.

in 2000 DS, DH and i were off for our first WDW trip. I was quite worried about DH not getting into the Disney magic and making this, my dream trip and what would certainly be a dream trip for our then 5 year old son, a drag. On good advise, i planned the Hoop Dee Doo for our arrival night. We checked in at the All Star Movies and made our way to the TTC to take the boat over to FW. (knowing my hubbie is a sucker for a boat trip to just about anyplace.) We arrived very early and took the extra time to explore the campground. He loved that place, but was still a bit bristely from all the travel. We had a BLAST in the Hoop Dee Doo and upon exiting - he wanted to "take another look around." He was hooked. On the Boat ride back to the TTC we began plotting our next trip to WDW (we were only 4 hours into our first one) and how we HAD to stay at FW.
Well, there are critters in Florida, nasty ones - so we decided on investing in a pop up camper to get us off the ground. Best investment other than a house we have ever made. We tow that puppy everywhere and to FW as often as we can afford to.
