I went through the trip reports I have gotten that mention 'Ohana since the menu change and 6 out of 30 said they did not like the new menu better and 24 said they liked it better or the same as the old menu. I read other reports posted by other sources that say that the new menu is getting more complaints that compliments.

If you have been to 'Ohana since the change can you email me at polynesian@tikiman2001.net and tell me what you thought and if you had tried the older menu?

Thanks for your help.

Steve

I'm curious, too -- trying to decide whether to visit Ohana on our upcoming trip. So if you don't mind posting your replies here too, I'd very much appreciate it :)

We ate there right after the new menu changes last fall. The steak, potato dish and bread pudding were worth the trip alone. We're going back for those 3 things this fall. Well, that and the awesome atmosphere-our kids had a blast!

We really liked 'Ohana before the menu change and decided to keep an open mind and try it during our October 2005 trip. The menu is now, IMO, nothing special. Without the shrimp wontons, green beans, rice, and shrimp on skewers, it is not worth the price to us. The mixed vegetables were bland and the scalloped potatoes were something you could get anywhere. Wonton chips just don't make up for the lack of shrimp wontons. We're not big bread pudding fans and preferred the pineapple at the end of the meal.

Even if 'Ohana doesn't do anything else, please ask them to bring back the wontons!

Are the people who like the new menu people who have been there before the menu change or is the new menu their first 'Ohana experience?

I sent you an email!

but in case anyone wants to know....we won't be going back to Ohana any time soon! What was once a MUST do is now a not gonna do :confused3 ! This August we'll be in WDW for 2 weeks and this is the first time in about 16 trips that we haven't been to Ohana's. It doesn't even feel right to me. I''m so disappointed in the changes they've made :sad2:

I just made a reservation on July 22nd at 5pm for my gf and I. I am also curious as what peoples thoughts are on the new menu. We have both never been there before and are really excited about it. I would just like to hear feedback from people who have been to 'Ohanas lately.

We thought the wonton chips and sauces were awful, and didn't care for the green bean dish. We enjoyed the wings and shrimp, and the potatoes. As for the meats, none were too tasty and the turkey was dry. But we love, love, loved the bread pudding ... definitely the best part of the meal!

I don't think this is what you are looking for, but I'll throw it out there anyway. ;)

I used to love Ohana, but havent been back since the change. I don't eat fish so the whole shrimp/wonton issue doesnt affect me. My biggest hang up now is the rice. That was one of the best parts of the meal, honestly I liked it more than the meats. As good as Im sure the potatoes are, to me, they just don't fit with that meal....rice does. And without that rice, I don't think I would enjoy it half as much.

As a side note, The Aloha Breakfast at PCH Grill at Paradise Pier Hotel in DL, serves white rice at the breakfast buffet, to go along with the Hawaiin theme. I just cant see not having rice (especially that awesome Ohana rice) with a Polynesian themed meal. :confused3

We had eaten at 'Ohana at least 8 times before the new menu. On Dec. 27 of last year we were going to try the new menu. Our service was so bad that after about an hour of neglect we left. I went to the restaurant check-in desk and told them I wanted to pay for the meal and get the h___ out of there. I wish I could tell you about some of the new foods, but we didn't get a chance to try them. I was so pissed-off I know we had a few things, but I don't remember what. I should not have paid full price, but I just wanted to get away from the place. I don't like to complain and then have them bring the food. You have no idea what nasty things they could do to your meal.

I wrote a letter with the time, table number and "servers" name. I got a feeble reply that the word would be passed on and that was it. I wasn't looking for a refund, so I guess that's the best I can ask for. We enjoyed 'Ohana before December, but will not be going back. This is the first time in my life (64 yrs. old) that I have had to walk out of a restaurant like that. I have had slow service before, but this was almost no service. I didn't scream or get nasty, I just wanted to leave.

I just had it last week and to tell you the truth I wouldnt do it again .
I never ate there before so I have nothing to compare it to but here is opnion melded with my MIL who ate there with me .

Wonton chips Ok but nothing special the sauces only the Peanut one was good.

The shrimp (THE LEGS WERE ON THEM ! ) Yucky I couldnt eat them but my MIL peeled them for me after she saw I wouldnt eat one after I peeled the 1st one . To tell you the truth it was just bolied shrimp with some sauce to me .

The meats were all very dry and I could hear the people around me saying the same thing about it .

The potatos well if you put a stick of butter in anything it will be yummy LOL

The veggies were just dumped out of a bag and steamed to me .

I didnt try the bread pudding but my MIL said it was yummy .

My overall score is a 4 on a 1-10 scale the only reason it got a 4 was because the service was wonderful and the food was eatable .

Steve:

I went to Ohana in Sept 05. I have to say it is THE ONLY TS place we are returning to in August, it was that great. The view was great, the service was wonderful, the entertainment for the kids was fun, the food was very good and there was PLENTY of it! I did not LOVE the peel and eat style shrimp but oh well....the turkey was kind of tough but other than that it was a GREAT GREAT MEAL!!!
I did not eat there when they had the old menu. But I did love the new one! The new dessert is WONDERFUL and we all loved it! It was a great experience for my whole family!!!
I love the salad too!!
just had to add that!!

thanks

My family ate here on April 14th and it was our best ts meal....In fact, we will eat here twice on our upcoming September trip! We found the meats to be tender and juicy, the service was excellent, and loved all the appy's and salad. Loved the sweet and sour shrimp.....dessert was awesome! :cool1:

I agree with the previous poster on bringing back the rice. I love potatoes as much as the next person, but I think the flavored (peanut?) rice they used to have was just scrumptious and much more consistent with the Polynesian theme.

And - PLEASE - bring back the potstickers! They were very delicious and very Pacific Islands-ish.

In fact, I would rather have the potstickers back and get rid of the peel-n-eat shrimp. I like shrimp just fine, but I can get that at many, many different restaurants all over the country. I really don't want to sit and peel them, either.

Steve, on a personal note, I just want to thank you for so graciously keeping us DISers so up-to-date on the Polynesian. We stayed there in 2001 and had a magical time. Your posts and website gave us a multitude of information to maximize our enjoyment of the Polynesian. I'm now planning a trip this summer, and was thrilled to see you still on the boards after all this time. Thank you! :thumbsup2

We've only done breakfast... and it's our favorite & first stop every trip.
From the sound of it I better start praying they don't change that menu!!

We haven't done the new meal, but I can tell you we probably won't go back.
Based on what we've read AND the fact that my Sis(27) and Bro(30) just got back (May 5) from eating at 'Ohana with the new menu.

Sis and Bro both have eaten at 'Ohana with the old menu. I specifically asked them about it. They were under-impressed about the menu and the service.

They said the shrimp were "eh". In my Bro's language, that means, "I ate it, but I probably won't again if I can help it." They wanted steak and turkey but the server wouldn't bring those together so they waited and waited and waited. Sis and Bro were both "where's the rice?" and while thought the potatoes were "edible", didn't think it fit with a Polynesian themed meal.

I asked about the dessert. They said the ice cream was good and ate only one bite of the bread pudding and were like, "Bring back the pineapple!"

I am SO bummed about this menu change. 'Ohana was our traditional first dinner at WDW. I don't know what I can replace this with.

Can someone post when the menu changed? Our first and only meal there was approx. Dec 14, 2005. We loved it, but some of these posts have me wondering when the menu actually changed.

Family and I had an reservation last sunday 5/7 at 5:30 and we were seated at 6:00.By 6:15 we had all of our appertizers and meal. We really had no time to enough our dinner. we felt that were being rushed out the door to turn more tables. The last time we had a late reservation and it worked out great!
