I have to confess: I was a "Smut Addict" for many, many years!!! Way over 15 years to be exact!! "Smut" is what I called the Star and Enquirer. I faithfully bought them every week, made my trip to the grocery store on Friday afternoon just to buy them. I would then pass them over to my Dad to read.
To be honest, my favorite sections were: What People are Wearing, and the star gossip.
After the anthrax episode at the Enquirer's headquaters last October, I rethought the situation and realized that:
1) These magazines were very, very expensive
2) The Enquirer and Star appear to be published by the same company and had much of the same content
3) Most of their "stories" were not stories at all
I gave up my "smut" cold turkey. I will admit that I broke down last month and bought the issue in which Lisa Marie's wedding photos were published as I wanted to see her dress.
I do, however, still buy Woman's World each week - I love the mystery story and then I pass this on to my Mom (who loves the recipes), who is turn passes it on to my SIL (who loves the craft ideas).
