Can we take the bus from POR to epcot and get on the monorail and take it to the Poly? Or would we need a park ticket? I can't remember if the monorail drops off outside of epcot on inside . . .

We want to ride the monorail and we are having dinner at the poly and I thought this would be a good way to fit the monorail in.

Thanks!

It might be easier to take the bus to Magic Kingdom and then hop on the monorail. That bus will drop you off at the MK gate, and the monorail will be a short walk away.

If you go to Epcot, you'll take the monorail to the TTC, and then you can transfer to the resort monorail, or take a short walk over to the Poly. But either way you don't need a ticket.

Or you can just park at the Poly and take a roundtrip ride on the monorail and get back off at the Poly where your car is parked. If you have a car. Otherwise take the bus to MK and here is why:

If you go to Epcot to ride, you will have to park in the Epcot lot, ride the tram up to the front of Epcot, and even though you are not going into the park, in order to get to the monorail you have to go through security to have your bags searched. It's just how they have it set up at that park. Then you will have to walk up the ramp to catch the monorail. Then when you are done with dinner you will have to take the monorail over to Epcot, wait for a tram to take you to your car.

Where as with the Poly the monorail it right outside the resort about 500 ft from the door. And it would be less of a hassle. Walk onto the monorail ride around one trip, get off at the Poly and then it is just a matter of a short walk to your car.

Thanks for your thoughtfulness! We will be using the disney transportation.

Okay just keep in mind that if you go to Epcot to ride the monorail that you have to go through security so you are better off going to MK to ride.

No, I don't think you do. Sure, the security tables are set up right near the base of the monorail ramp - but since you're not going into the park, you wouldn't need to have your bags checked. I mean, no other monorail boarding point requires/expects a bag check; why would Epcot?

If I remember the layout, at the MK you have to go thru the bag check to go to the monorail ramp. Maybe I am wrong on that but I think when you come out of the park you head to the right to get on the monorail, which is in the area where the bag check is. Maybe someone can verify this?

OK. Let's clarify things here.

You do not need a park ticket or to go through any of the park security checks to ride any of the monorails at WDW. There are no monorail stops inside any of the parks or inside security. (At DLR in California the monorail does stop inside of DL.)

You can board the Epcot monorail at Epcot or the TTC, the resort monorail at the TTC, Poly, GF, MK or CR, and the express monorail at the TTC or MK.

To the OP's original question, I would take the bus from POR to the MK, then take the resort monorail around to the Poly. This will let you get off at the Poly stop which is connected to the second level of the GCH. You could take the express monorail from the MK or go to Epcot and catch the monorail there, but both of those will drop you at the TTC and require either switching to the resort monorail or walking to get to the Poly.
