Okay this is my dilemna, I was told today I have to have knee surgery next week. I leave for OKW Oct.4 in a studio that I have both rented points and paid cash for extra nights.

I'm not cancelling my trip because I promised this trip to my nephew who has never been there. I have all the WDW tickets, non-refundable airline tickets, Mickey shirts, rental van, I even have the phone number to Walker's so I can rent an ECV, but I'm afraid since there will be four of us on this trip there will not be enough room in the studio for all of us and an ECV.

How could I get a one bedroom instead. The cash room I understand, but I rented points from a DVC owner for Sunday - Thursday and that is 40 points for those days.

I know the one bedroom is more points per night.

Or do I try to change that reservation to another date and try to rent the points I would need (and if available) for the one bedroom I think I need in Oct. 4

Could you please help?

I don't know what agreement you have with the renting member about the reservation, but if you cancel the reservation you now have, the points will go into a holding account (since you're within 30 days)- which complicates their use.

If a 1BR is available and the member has enough points to rent the extra needed to you, the existing reservation could be upgraded to the 1BR.

If there is no 1BR availability, you are stuck with the scenario already described above. If the member doesn't have enough points to add to the points already used, you will still be cancelling the existing reservation and are subject to the "holding account" rules.

Yes, the ECV will crowd the room a bit, but may still be the best solution to your dilemma. You could probably store it on the balcony to minimize your inconvenience in the room itself.

I think I'd contact the member you are dealing with to see what might be available, but just keep the studio if that won't be easy.

Have a great trip, I'm sure it will work out for you!

You may want to call OKW front desk to ask what arrangments could be made for your ECV while it is not being used. I have seen ECVs outside doors at various times at both OKW and BWV.

If you really want a one-bedroom unit, your 40 points will buy two nights with 4 points left over. MS could give you availability information.

Good luck...

I think the first thing I would do in this situation is call the DVC member and see if he/she would check availability for a 1 bedroom. If there is a 1 bedroom available, maybe he/she has enough points to make the change for you for the entire trip. Keep in mind that it is less than 30 days before arrival, so the DVC member has consequences if he/she completely cancels the studio reservation. It'll be OK to make a change to a one bedroom for the same time period or to add nights, though. If the DVC member can make the entire change, you are all set. If you need more nights in the one bedroom than the DVC member can get, you can call CRO to see what you can get for cash.

Another option could be to just rent (or make a cash ressie) for another studio. That assumes you aren't the only adult on the trip. It might not be as nice as all being together in the same room, but there should be enough room for your ECV if you are alone or only sharing with one other person. Ask for a handicapped accessible unit or one of the buildings with an elevator.

Good luck! Hope the surgery goes even better than expected.

The absolute most important thing that needs to be conveyed to OKW is that you will require a ground floor room. All but the newest buildings have stairs, not elevators, to the upper floors.

An ECV will fit in a studio. The rooms are a nice size and should accommodate it.

Good luck with your surgery!

Thank You for all your kinds words and advice.

I hadn't thought of getting two studios. I like that idea and it seems simple enough if I can find someone with Sunday through Saturday points available and a studio available.

Thank you again :D

You may also want to request a handicapped studio as they are made for that type of thing. If you request a first floor for medical reasons, you're likely to get the handicapped unit anyway.

I think that yoiu will find that you have ample room in a studio of not bring a pad lock and bike chain and leave the ECV (locked to the railing) outside your room?
