My friend and I are working on an Alice in Wonderland remake project, and we need some song suggestions. We're looking for songs that have a very happy beat and are very lyrical. It would be a huge help if they were also quite popular. While we both love the classics, there's something so creepy about a pop song that has been used in a situation to make it scary to hear. Think "Singin in the Rain" when used in Clockwork Orange and "Mr. Sandman" when used in Halloween.

We're using the song Bubbly by Colbie Calait (sorry if I misspelled her name), New Slang by The Shins, Hope by Jack Johnson, and Mr. Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra, so if you can think of any songs like that, I would be eternally grateful.

Oh. And this isn't a happy Disney movie, it's an... ode to her insanity. If anyone's played (or heard of) the video game by American McGee, it's sort of based off that. She's 19 years old, in an insane asylum, and she goes back to Wonderland. When she gets there, she's happy and excited, basically like a seven year old all over again. As she gets crazier and crazier, things start to happen, and she tries to save Wonderland. In the process, she completely destroys her human body.

Thanks so much.

It's Caillat, by the way. :)

If you want insanity, I suggest Disturbia by Rihanna. It may be a little too dark for what you're doing though.

A lot of songs by The Cat Empire are both creepy yet mystical, in a sense.

I immediately thought of marvelous things by eisley.

I awoke the dawn
saw horses growing out the lawn
ah ah

I glimpsed a bat with butterfly wings
oh what marvelous things
ah ah

Dark night, hold tight, and sleep tight
my baby
Morning light shall burst bright
and keep us here safely

I followed a rabbit
through rows of mermaid entwined Shrubbery
Ah ah

Oh what marvelous things but they are, they are, they are
giving me the creeps

Dark night, hold tight, and sleep tight
my baby
Morning light shall burst bright
and keep us here safely

Oh, lying in the sun
everyday feeling all of the magic in life
and the wonder

Dark night, hold tight, and sleep tight
my baby
Morning light shall burst bright
and keep us here safely
morning light shall burst bright
and keep us here safely
Ah ah

hmm...I'll try to think of more.

I Always Knew by Tilly and the Wall.
I've lived my life inside daydream lies,
imaginary friends that always knew, knew, one day I'd leave, leave, for good.
I'll give away this girl who tried to make you fall in love, uh huh
I'll give her to, to, you so keep her close, close to you.
So you won't forget about how she loved you so long ago once upon a time.
Now she has grown, grown up, and you can't take, take it back

A lullaby won't change my mind, and I won't ever go back to that.
I will stay true, true to this belief that we've changed for the best through this.

Separate the ones who know you
from the ones who couldn't bother to see you for all that you are.
And deep down I always knew all the times I thought that I loved you,
it was just an easy answer, It was make believe,
but I still believe that this heart, heart will learn to love.

Sorry they're not popular, haha.

Thank you so much for the suggestions.
imabrat, I had never heard of them, but they're fantastic.

I'm Sonya. =)
Yeah, I've only recently discovered them so I don't know many songs, but they were the first thing I thought of when you said "creepy yet mystical". IDK, they just give me that kind of vibe through their music.

"Uh-merica" or "Lacrymosa" (both Regina Spektor) are really good songs for that kind of thing. You need some Evanescence, of course. "Lithium" could be great for the scene where she drinks the Drink Me and eats the Eat Me. Linkin Park's "Numb" (not the one with Jay-Z) would be an awesome one. Lenka's song "Trouble is a Friend" sounds great, too. I'm Shelton, BTW.
