My 1st grader is getting bored with her lunches lately. She really is a good eater and I like to encourage that. (she's the only one of my kids that eats well) I usually pack her either a yogurt, soup in a thermos, or fresh ground peanut butter (yuk) with honey on 7 grain bread. She also takes either some fruit or crackers and cut up veggies. So I need ideas for the"main" course. and cold cuts are not an option.

Thanks

Peanut butter & apple slices?

Tuna salad sandwich?

Cheese strings?

Egg salad sandwich?

Cream Cheese & Jelly sandwich?

Runny gravy??? :teeth: ;)

how about some cereal poured into a little baggie for a change, if she will eat it dry

some cheese slices to go with her crackers

something in a pita or rolled in a tortilla shell

I rotate between tortellinis with red sauce or some other small pasta like small raviolis - my son doesn't mind that they aren't warm when he eats them; a turkey sausage strombolli that I get at Trader Joes cut up in bite sized pieces (again, not an issue that they eat it cold - it still tastes great); liverwurst sandwhiches (I know, but he really likes them); Peanut Butter and Jelly; to Annie's Mac & Cheese. I also make turkey sandwhiches with a spinach dip as the "mayonaise" - it taste great and he loves it.

My mother used to send me to school with a Thermos filled with boiling water that she then put a hotdog in and the bun would be separate in a ziplok. The hotdog was hot when I sat down to lunch, I thought it was great - I got teased about it, but I didn't like sandwhiches as a child.

Hope that helps - I too hope to get some further ideas here from others - my rotation is getting a little stale too.

Cereal is a good idea, and she doesn't like milk so thats not a problem.

Also the PB and apple slices. I could make one of those apple salads where you core it and plug it with the PB. hmmm

Egg salad she would probably eat, but it makes me physically ill to look and or smell it:D one of my idiosyncrisies

and the torilla roll up would work as long as its got chicken

Thanks for the ideas

I send my kids to school with snack plates a lot. I'll put in grapes, a granola bar, applesauce, yogurt, carrots, Goldfish etc. I mix it up so it stays healthy. They love to eat the variety.

DS loves salad -- I just pack the dressing in a tiny rubbermaid container. He also loves hard boiled eggs. Today he has a garden salad with string cheese cut up and put on top with a little bit of diced ham. He also loves any kind of lunch item on a tortilla. I have even made him a cheeseburger which he didn't mind eating cold, ravioli, tortellini, etc. He also likes stir-fry, even if he can't microwave it at lunch.

My son loves anything rolled in a tortilla.

He also likes cheese and crackers with fruit.

Salad is another good idea. You can put carrots, croutons, green pepper, tomatoes, ham, etc. on it. Put the dressing in a seperate container.

When my kids were in grade school, I always made a big batch of chicken salad on sunday and they would would either take it in tupperware with some crackers, or I would go out in the morning for fresh rolls or bagels. That was a big hit.
Also leftover pizza, they loved it.
My daughter would also be satisified with a bowl of fresh fruit salad or a garden salad.

Just be creative, and don't get into slacking and giving them junk. I know its easy to do. Been there done that.

cold pizza
bagel with cream cheese or peanut butter

My DD loves bagels with Cream cheese.

Both kids love when I make pancakes for breakfast, and send the extras for lunch in a ziplock bag. They don't care that they aren't warm.

English muffins with melted cheese and ham, wrapped in foil.
