I am making all the plans for a friend of mine who is going to WDW for the first time in October. She is travelling with her sister, sister's friend, 2 nieces, and her daughter. All are adults except the daughter who is 9. They are going to be there only Friday thru Sunday night. They are torn if they should use the Dining Plan. The only thing that had been planned is the Princess lunch at Ackerhaus.
I have never used the Dining Plan since the last huge trip I made they didn't offer it and the last small trip I made I didn't want to waste time dining and we aren't big eaters anyway.

So what should I recommend my friend to do? I dont' want to steer her wrong. Her daughter is a pretty picky eater but I am not sure about the others. :confused3

Thanks for all the help!!

I don't think it would be worth it. They will only be there for a few days. You can probably spend less just buying their food. They have plenty of counter service restaurants that won't break the budget. The dining plan would have worked out if they stayed a week or so. Also, since they are picky eaters, it wouldn't benefit them. The table service meals serve large portions and they may not like some of the items.

I agree. We are doing the dining plan because we will be there over Christmas week and will want sit-down meals to escape the crowds at the parks. But for such a short trip, I would not want any more table-service meals than the one you have planned.

Yup, I agree on not doing the dining plan too. I'd eat counter service for the rest of the meals with the exception of the princess TS!

If they plan on 1 TS a day get the plan, if they just want CS skip it.

I simply love the dining plan, but I wouldn't for that small amount of time that they'll be in WDW.

Well, I would get DDP because I would still spend as much or more on food without it, no matter how long our stay is.

Length of stay is irrelevant to getting the DDP. However, staying on site matters a grea deal (wasn't mentioned in the post). DDP is only available to Disney hotel/resort guests.

The one lunch they have planned will cost $17 for the child and $31pp after tax and tip are added? Mom and Daughter have already saved money that day and can still get 2 more meals and 2 snacks!

They could even save snack credits and use them for souveniers at Goofy's candy company or other store, ie. get spending money out of the DDP, pretty good deal.

Look at the menus, see where you'd like to eat, make ADRs and buy the plan if it makes sense. Based on the one meal selected it makes great sense.

Hope they have a great time.
