Right now I'm in the military deployed in Afghanistan and I went on the Walt Disney Website to look at a quote for a vacation package me and my wife wanted to do. The quote was for 8200 dollars, which included Air Transportaion and Rental Car. Is there anyway I can get that discounted??? I got a Dream Maker Gold Package for 8 days. Plz E-mail back. Thanks

Anthony

Book the pieces separately yourself. You can get better airfare on your own. Have your wife go to the military travel agency on your base and work it all out.

Don't add a food plan to your vacation..you can always send extra money ahead for the reservation to cover what you think you may use up in food/souvenier money, if you want the vacation prepaid.

I would consider that to be an absolute worst case! I am not a member of the military, but I believe that WDW does offer military discounts. Check out mousesavers.com, I think Mary covers that topic. Also, definately book the airfare yourselves. Eight days may warrant buying an annual pass, especially if you can not get a military discount on your room. Annual passholders are some times offered deep discounts on their rooms. These discounts can be up to 45%, however they are not guaranteed to be offered or available during your timeframe. You are also entitled to other discounts such as dining and some merchandise discounts as a passholder.

Thank you!

I agree with the above posters, book seperately. You can save a lot more that way. Discounts are offered to miliary personnel on tickets, hotels and Shades of Green. If you are not familiar with SOG it is a previous Disney hotel that the military now runs. The rates are based on your rank. You might want to check out mousesavers.com for more on military discounts

Docmccoy82 -

Check out www.shadesofgreen.org for military information. Based on your rank you can get rooms as cheap as $70/night at the Shades of Green which is a military resort onsite at Disney World. Both my husband & father-in-law are in the military & have stayed at the Shades many times & love it there. My FIL just returned from Iraq & they are trying to book a vacation, too. I will be staying there for the first time this September. On the website there is also information on discounted tickets for you & your family.

It has always ended up being much cheaper for me to purchase tickets, hotel & airfare separately. The Shades also has some restaurants that are supposed to offer pretty good buffets at reasonable prices for military families. You'll probably also want to check out some restaurants at the parks, too. :)

If there isn't availability at the Shades of Green inquire about overflow rates to other resorts. We have also stayed at hotels like the All-Star Movies & really loved it for the price. I hope this helps & please feel free to ask any other questions - enjoy your trip!!! :)

Anthony,

The Dream Maker Gold package includes vouchers for three sit down meals per day. That is a lot of eating and a lot of money. Most people rarely eat that much, even on vacation. I believe it costs $139 per night per person extra. I know it also includes unlimited use of recreation facilities, admission to Cirque and unlimited access to selected tours. But, in all reality, how much of this will you use. Will you and your wife be spending an extra $278 per day on meals and activities? It really is highly unlikely.

As others have said, through Shades of Green you should be able to get discounts on rooms and possibly even park tickets. Airfare is often cheaper if you keep an eye on fares and book it yourself when there is a special.

Check out www.mousesavers.com for info on discounts to Disney.

You should be able to do better than the price you got from the Disney website.

Good luck.
