I need some help from someone who knows about Samsung 46' lcd tv's

DH & I are looking at buying a 46" samsung lcd.......

either model # 750
1080p /240hz
or
# 640
1080p/120hz

from what we understand from reasearch, the difference is the hz( picture quality), and the #750 has the extra " instant content " stuff.

the sales rep also said the 240 hz will be much better for movies and games
( we are buying a Wii for Christmas, and a PS3 after the new year)
but.......to get that " hz" we have to buy 2 extra cords that are $140 each.
SO.....my question is:
is that 240 hz compared to 120hz really a big deal? do you really notice a difference in movies?
is it really worth the upgrade of an inital $300 for the TV and the $ 300 worth of cables ?
(the cables for the 120hz are half the price, and the TV is $300 less)
will the model #640 get the job done or will we regret not buying the #750 w/240 hz?

If you can afford the price difference, absolutely go with the 240hz. We have a 120hz and it's wonderful, but that was top of the line then. 240hz is the newer technology and it is going to make your picture a little better, especially action scenes and sports.

we can afford it, but not sure if it is overkill.
here are our currrent veiwing habits -
we are upgrading from a 32" tube tv, so anything flat screen and HD is going to be a dramatic change right?
80% of out viewing is evening primetime, and movies on the weekend evenings, and almost all of our veiwing is in the evening - during the day we do not even turn the tv on.

We just bought the 46" LED, not LCD. We got a great deal on it, and the price was even lower a couple weeks later so we got a price adjustment. We didn't get the 240hz and we don't regret it. I don't know how the picture could come in any better than it does already. We couldn't be happier with our decision.

We have a 46" Samsung LCD that we bought two years ago. Back then they didn't have the hz as a selling point so ours isn't even 120hz. If I were replacing this tv I'd get the highest I could if I could afford it. If I was going from a tube TV I'd get the 120hz. Have you looked at the two of them in person? Can YOU see a difference? Honestly that is where it matters!

do we really need the $140 HDMI cables?
i am reading any good quality HDMI cable is fine......do not need to spend $350 on cables at BB? that would be a alot of money saved right there.

We just bought the 52" Samsung (being delivered on Tues ) and we bought the upgraded model. We figured, when your spending that kind of money, buy the best.

We have the same one as your family and we absolutely love it, and I'm sure your family will too.

My dh had the store come out to hook up everything, including his Bose and Wii all on a universal remote.

Hi yes, we have seen them in person, but you it is so hard to tell differences with all the extra stuff they have hooked up to display tv's.....some have Blue-ray playing, some have HD, etc.
we have been studying big screens for a year now it took us this long to narrow it down to a Samsung 46" ( LOL we went as far as making a template and hanging it on the wall to see the size differences in our living room)
so we know how they look in person, we are just stuck on the 240 or 120 hz thing and the crazy price of cables.....wondering if we need all that "Stuff" or not.

Do not buy your HDMI cables at a store. Get them online. I bought two six foot HDMI cables that were high speed 10.2 gigabytes (the ones in the stores are usually 5 gigs) online for $36 plus shipping. BB totally rips you off on the cables because you want to take it home and set it up that day so you say what the heck and over pay for them. Have patience and order online.

The answer to this is NO!!! BB sold us $300 in cables, I took them back and ordered some for $12 from Amazon.

Buy the extended warranty.

I don't usually buy the extended warranty, but the next time I buy a tv, I will. My newest 2 tv's - both have problems right after the warranty went out. One is a Samsung. I read that my problem with the Samsung was a problem almost everyone with my model had and Samsung refused to repair it. Someone started a class action and after I signed up with the class action, Samsung repaired the problem.

The tv repairman told me to always buy the extended warranty on tvs because they don't make them like they used to and the newer the technology, the more that can go wrong.

I have a 52 inch Samsung LCD and I love it. The 240 Hz doesn't make as much difference I as I expected - in fact on some things it looks weird (hard to describe - it just doesn't look quite right) with that on so we don't even use it all the time. We are big gamers - PS3, Wii and XBox 360 - and the games look great on our TV even with the 240 hz turned off.

If you haven't already, I recommend getting the nicer cables for the Wii. It makes a big difference with the picture quality.

I recommend the extended warranty. We got that for our JVC that we had before our current TV. It needed minor routine service and the service people ended up breaking a part that they don't make any longer. The extended warranty ended up replacing the TV with whatever we chose that was "comparable". We ended up chosing our new Samsung and paying the difference since it was a much nicer TV. We love it! No complaints at all so far.

You will need the cables but for heavens sake don't pay those crazy prices for them. We used monoprice.com and got 2 hdmi cables, an RCA cable, and several others for under $40. They are just as good quality as the more expensive ones sold in stores.

ETA - Forgot to mention - We spent hours comparing TVs when trying to chose the new one. We go them to change our favorites to the same feed so we could compare them more directly. It is much easier to compare them when they are showing the same thing on both!

We have the 40" 640B Samsung and just love it (love the screen front that comes with this TV). We didn't need the HDMI cables, because we only use ours for TV and our Cable company doesn't broadcast that high.

If you want the HDMI cables, be sure to check Sam's club. They are much cheaper there.

I love watching the food chanel. You can see every little grain of pepper, and the steam..wow, what a difference. I only wish I hadn't waited (and I wish we had more HD stations in our area..I seldom watch lifetime anymore, I'd rather wach a HD chanel LOL!). We don't even have ours set on the higher numbers, we are thrilled with the way it was when we got it and set it up. We switched once, just to see if it worked OK, and I guess for what we watch, it didn't matter. I thought someone told us once it uses more power, but it's been awhile since I researched and I"ve emptied my brain of the info I no longer needed to know LOL.

We paid $1,499 at Best Buy a few months ago. We got the HDMI cables from the cable company. I don't know if they are different from the ones you buy, but our TV comes in beautifully with them.

we should save enough $ buy getting the 120hz model and buying the HDMI cables online, that the PS3 might be able to be purchased as a christmas gift also instead of after the new year!

thought i would update.......

we went ahead and bought the Samsung 750 240 hz anyways it was only $200 more
than the 120hz ( on sale for $1,399.99)
DH said what the heck! go for the gusto

no cables though ......we will buy them online
