I'm trying to figure out if it would be better for us to rent points or not.
This is what we have booked right now with AAA:
2 Rooms Pop Century
7 day Hoppers w/ water park options
Dining Plan
Family of 5
August 27-September 3
Currently paying $3356

Would I get a better deal with renting dvc? I'm so confused :confused3

Hmm - deal is subjective. There will be trade offs. PC is a value resort, and DVC are deluxes - so that alone is a consideration. Are you staying 7 or 8 nights? Now for the $$:

2 rooms PC (2 brs, 2 baths) becomes a 2 BR DVC at Saratoga Springs (most likely available there on this shorter notice) with full kitchen:

155 points for 8/27 - 8/31 = $1550 @ $10 per points
135 points for 9/1 - 9/3 = $1350 (cheaper season, expensive nights)
Total Accommodations = $2880.

Then factor in 7 day hoppers with options and dining for your groups age range.

Financially, you're likely ahead with the AAA package. You could shave $$ by staying in 2 studios, but you get 1 bed and sleeper sofa per studio and not full kitchen, just fridge, coffee, microwave, and toaster.

The studios would be:

8/27 - 8/31 = 60 points each or $1200 total.
9/1 - 9/3 = 51 points each or $1020 total.
Total 2 studios for 8 nights: $2220.
Then, it might be worth considering DVC. Studios don't connect to one another - but you could request the same general area.

Caveats: assumes $10 per points, could be $11. Assumes Saratoga Springs, which is further out. Might get Boardwalk, Beach Club, or Wilderness Lodge Villas, but the cost would be a little more.

You might fit into a 1 BR (parents in BR, 2 young kids sharing sleeper sofa, infant in crib) if that fits your age ranges, but the cost will be similar to 2 studios.

Hope this helps.

The OP has five people (see number of tickets needed) and cannot stay in a single studio. They would need at least a one bedroom, but would be giving up the second bathroom and two beds. The one bedroom would only have one king and one queen sleeper sofa, linens for 4. There is no guarantee that two studios would be near each other. The parents would have to spend the entire vacation split up.

With your family of 5, I don't think renting points will beat your AAA price. You'd still have to pay for the dining and tickets separately from your DVC rental.

Just an FYI but for that time of year, we have been able to get some great package deals (pay for 5/stay 7 nights, 2004) & the free dining plan last year with tickets and room. Keep a watch around June-it's no guarantee but you might be able to lower your package price then pixiedust:

The DVC studio scenario I suggested assumed 2 studios - so the family would fit in 2 rooms. I don't see why the parents would have to spend the entire vacation split up? The OP didn't list ages of kids (though I could've read TRs, I suppose). While I imagine there has to be 1 adult per room with minors, I can'timagine the CMs would check who is sleeping in which room! If the kids included at least 1 responsible older teen, I don't see the problem. Anyway, isn't it the same situation with two rooms at PC, since connecting rooms aren't guaranteed?

Still, I agree that financially, the AAA package makes the most sense.

If you want to save, the AAA deal is the best for you. Have a great vacation.
