Last year I got her an art set with crayons, markers, water colors, etc. and an art project from Michael's. This year I am at a loss again. I hardly know the child and have no idea what she wants. I also have a strict $50 limit for her present (and that has to include the shipping). Suggestions?

Hard to say when you don't know what she likes! The thing that came to my mind first was the Loopdedoo. Now, I don't have one, but I know they are well reviewed because I considered getting one for my daughters. It makes neat bracelets. Amazon had it for just over $30. At QVC with shipping it comes out about the same price but you get twice as much embroidery thread.

Otherwise, go on Amazon and search Klutz books, or Fashion Angels books. Klutz makes lots of fun activity/craft books, and Fashion Angels does a lot of fashion sketch and other activity books that my girls enjoy and probably appeal to a lot of 10 yo girls.

Well, my daughter is 9 and is into things like...
Monster High dolls
Barbies of any kind
Playing school/Teaching supplies
Anything zebra or cheetah print
Drawing, coloring, writing
Purses, wallets, accessories
Nail polish, lip gloss, lotions
board games & Wii games
TV shows: "Shake it up" & "Victorious"
Preteen Books like Junie B Jones, American girls, etc

Hope that helps. :thumbsup2

Thank you. I will check out the suggestions. It is hard because I really don't know her.

It's always so interesting how different kids of the same age are. :goodvibes My DD9 isn't really into anything on your DD's list except for Wii games, although she hasn't asked for any this year. But many of her friends would have a similar list as your DD. DD9 wants Harry Potter Legos, a new soccer ball, a new basketball, Slushy Magic, and a video camera. She is currently reading the Among the Hidden series by Margaret Peterson Haddix, which her older sister recommended. There is a new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book that came out last month.

OP, would you consider a gift card to someplace like Target (or Barnes and Noble if she is a reader)? 10 year old girls can be all over the place in their interests. Or can you find out anything about her room? PB Teen has some interesting room items that would keep you under budget. My DD has an older sister, so she has been interested in PB Teen for a while, despite not being a teen yet herself. ;)

My niece's 10th birthday party is tonight! She's not a very girly girl and was never much into dolls, especially not now. For tonight I got her a Tinkerbell cold cup with a straw from the Disney store and put chocolates (she loves chocolate!) and a Justice gift card in it. For Christmas I got her a how to make duct tape crafts book from Amazon with a few rolls of colorful tape. She'd also like the slushy magic, Jamba Juice gift cards, and she's definitely into the "mustache craze" that's in now.

I was thinking "spa stuff" would be great for a pre-teen. Nail file, nail polish, the toe separators, etc.

my daughter is ten and likes
monster high dolls
NOT barbies (too old for them)
american girl
Friends legos
anything from the store "Justice" (clothing or toys or hats/bags/etc)
spa day lotions/nail polish

Our adopted family this year has a 10 year old girl On her list was: clothing, warm coat, shoes, scooter or skates and art stuff.

I got her:
- a pea coat
- furry boots
- jeggings
- long sleeve top
- scarf and hat
- Razr scooter
- jewelry making kit
- journal and pen

My dd will be ten next month. Here are some of her likes:

Princesses
Jewelry craft kits
Littlest pet shops
American girl dolls
Quiz yourself books
mysteries
barbies
cabbage patch dolls
clothes
anything pink!

She's very girly. princess:

In my opinion, there is NO shame in a gift card! She's at a great age to really appreciate that and getting exactly what she wants. My DD10 loves receiving gift cards. Aside from that, here are some of her interests.

Monster High of course. :-)
My Little Pony she is obsessed with the new series and it's really popular with grown ups too! Just look at Hot Topic sometime!
Spa things
Soft fuzzy things like slippers, socks, etc
Justice accessories

Does she play any sports? How about a duffle bag embroidered with her name packed with a few sports accessories. My daughter just turned 11 but wanted a soccer bag with a mesh window for the ball. I got her a black one, had her name embroidered on it in purple and am going to fill it with some new mismatched soccer socks and clothes. I think my bag was around $35 shipped but they also had some in the $20 range.

If she doesnt play sports just an embroidered overnight bag packed with jammies? Sleepovers run rampant at that age.

I agree, girls that age rarely get to shop "with their own money", so a gift card provides that experience.
I don't like the idea of just a gift card though becaue I always want the recipient to have something to actually have, so maybe a small pillow (with initial), pen/journal, or small novelity item from Justice along with the gift card.
I also think Barnes & Noble is a great gift card idea with a bookmark or journal.

Good luck. You are very thoughtful to give without really knowing her.

She does not play sports (she has some eye issues). I have to give her something because she's my nephew's GF's child. They moved in together 2 years ago (other side of the country). Last year I actually visited them for Christmas, so it was a little easier. This year maybe a gift card would work better. I am waiting for a call-back from my nephew for ideas, but he is less than useless. Last year he suggested something "educational." Who wants to be the "great-aunt" who gives boring educational toys? Not I!!!!!

My own girls were never girly or artsy so I have no real experience. I like the "spa" basket idea.

My almost 10 year old would only choosing the drawing, coloring, writing off this list. She also loves model magic and kits like that.

Her book recommendations are Wimpy Kid Series, Dork Diary Series, and Warriors Series.

She is big into Dolphins while her friend in into Owls.

My daughter would rather be outside running and does not like Barbies or Monther High. Her friend does like Monster high and she is also 10.

It is funny to see how different kids are.

I would just get her a gift card to Justice. There is stuff for every girl there-sweatsuits, sparkly sweaters, shoes, stuffed animals, jewelry, pillows.

Do you mind me asking where you found the soccer bag?? My daughter would love that and I could get it for her birthday next month.

For some kids (my almost 10 year old) you would be a great aunt. I have a kid who loves learning as well as being active. There are some cool science kits out there.

I would probably stick with the gift card with maybe a stuffed animal.
