I need some airfare advice from more experienced travelers.

We are going to WDW from June 29-July 6 and I've been keeping an eye on the airfares, and they've gone up slightly. I'm concerned they will keep rising because we are traveling so close to the July 4th holiday, but we are still so far out from the date, I'm not sure. Should I be booking our seats now before they rise further, or do they usually fall in price again before that time? :confused3

We must be thinking the same thing this morning as I just posted the same question! Are you flying out of StL?

The best time to book a plane ticket is generally 30-60 days before departure. That is not to say you will not get a cheap fare outside of those dates, but statistically for non-holidays that is the best window of opportunity.

I would not worry about traveling close to July 4th, most people will either stay for the whole week or return on Monday.

Flying out of Chicago OHare. I thought the prices might keep going up heading to the 4th of July, but I think I will continue to keep an eye on it.:surfweb: Surely, their would be lower fares than they are posting right now in the next six months.:confused3

If you are flying out of O'hare the chances of getting a lower fare are pretty good. On the other hand if you fly SW out of Midway and purchase a ticket and your flight price drops SW will adjust the price. They will not give you cash back but rather they will issue a flight credit to use at a later date usually within 12 months.

I was just looking into this same thing, only we're going in Aug...we're tired of southwest and wanted to try american this time...I'm thinking I should book, so the fares don't go too high. I need to wait at least 2 weeks because I have a day to add onto my hotel first, but I'm thinking I might book then for airfare if its still around the same price it is now. I hate waiting til the last minute.

I am keeping an eye primarily on American and Southwest. I am more familiar with American and their "process" seems a bit more easier than Southwest, so I will most likely book American. Thanks for all the advice. It helps me not to panic and book the flight right now because I do believe there is a chance they will go down.:surfweb:
Edit: I just checked American and they are $103 right now. I wonder if they will go down any further. Just to clarify- I know Southwest flies out of Midway, and they serve POP Century(Magical Express) which is where we are staying. If I don't go with Southwest, I could go with a number of other airlines, such as Airtran which is offering fares at $74 right now. THIS IS ALL SO CONFUSING! Don't know what the best answer is!

Just want to say that I will ALWAYS fly Southwest over any other airline. You have to remember to add the baggage fees to American flight prices, and the baggage and seat fees to AirTran reservations. Also, make sure you are not just looking at the price on the first screen - you have to pretend to buy the tickets to see what the total will be with taxes, etc.

Customer service is what really sets SW apart, IMO. I've never had an unpleasant experience with any SW employee, no matter what the problem or situation. Plus, I do think their seats are more comfortable than anyone except JetBlue.

Just my $.02.
