Ok......we have a eastern planned at the end of August...my question is......what beach should we go too? I looked on the Disney website and it says Orient Bay (on St. Maarten) well that is a clothing optional beach.....we would not enjoy that to much...its all adults traveling and we wanted to relax for a few hours before shopping or visa versa. What do you recommend? I know you guys would be able to help! :)

Also what beaches or excursions on St Thomas/ St. John do you recommend?

Thank you so much for your help!!! ;)

I'd be interested in hearing comments about this as well, looks like we will be on the same cruise Travis, Welcome Aboard!!! I have another thread on the cruise line board for cruisers on the 8-23-03 cruise. You can check it out here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=320225

My favorite beaches on St. Maarten are Dawn Beach and Little Bay beach. Dawn is on the eastern side of the island, still on the Dutch side. When it's calm, it has good snorkeling, although it can get a little rough if there's a storm in the Atlantic. It's about a 15 minute cab ride from the cruise ship pier.

Little Bay is just to the west of Great Bay, where the ship docks. It's a bit more laid back, but there are a few resorts nearby, so it tends to be a bit more crowded. Good snorkeling there also. About a 5 minute cab ride from the pier.

If you just want to lay in the sun and take an occasional dip, Great Bay beach is just fine. You can take the water taxi from the cruise ship peir to the beach. Downtown is right behind the beach, so you get get some sun and then shop, eat lunch, etc.

On St. Thomas and St. John, there are plenty of great beaches. The best one really depends on what you want to do. If you want to go to St. John, it will take most of your day if you want to have a good period of time on the beach. My favorite beach on St. John is Cinnamon Bay. You can get a cab from the ferry at Cruz Bay to get there. It's just as nice as the much-heralded Trunk Bay, but usually much less crowded.

On St. Thomas, I like Coki or Sapphire beach for snorkeling and Magens Bay for just lying around. You can hit any of these for half a day, and still get in some shopping in Charlotte Amalie.

We went to Orient Beach and the amount of "clothing optional" depends upon what area you go to. We had 3 children with us age 9-14 and where we were 90+% of the people we dressed appropriatly. The remainder were mostly women going topless and very few people - men and women were without swimming attire. Those who shed their clothes were either so brown and leathery as to but a total turn off, and the others were so painfully red as to be pretty commical looking - and they got what was comming to them.

Our taxi driver dropped us off in a more clothed area, and came back and picked us up 3 hours later. It was way, way way cheeper doing this on our own than paying for a DCL excursion (but we still do their excursions too). Orient Beach is very beautiful. The sand is nice, the weather warm, nice ocean breezes and the water was warm and a lot of fun to play in. We didn't have our own snorkeling gear so we didn't do any snorkeling there - and i'm not sure if it is good there or not.
