I need paint color suggestions

No matter how much Trading Spaces I watch, I'll never have an eye for what color to paint walls.

Here's my dilemma. I have a very extensive autograph collection which I display on the walls in my family room. The walls are currently white and are more or less covered autographed photos. BUT - the wall still shows through in the spaces in between. And I am SICK SICK SICK of white walls. My daughter has forbidden me to paint them tan, as our living room/dining room areas are tan. She says that's enough.

I would really like to paint in a more adventurous color, but not be super crazy. The carpet is tan and there's wood halfway up the wall. Any suggestions? I know alot of you guys are interior decorating gurus.

Do you want the room to have a warm feeling or sophisticated or cool? With the wood, I would go with a warm color. How about something in the deep olive famiily. A warm red would look good too. Both of those would contrast with the autoghraphs, since I am fairly certain these would be on paper objects.

Yes. Definitely a warm color. We have our woodburning stove in that room, so it's a "warm" room to begin with.

We have notty pine tongue and groove paneling halfway up our wall in our basement family room and I painted the rooms an olive green. It's very cozy and easy to pull other colors to match - cream, tan, brown, mustard yellow, burgendy, deep orange, etc.

I had wanted to paint the room a deep red, but it just didn't go well with the wood, our wood is a honey color.

I'd stick with a very light color, to better reflect light and illuminate your pictures...

or just get more autographed pictures to fill in the blank spots where the walls show thru....

You guys are so great! I knew you would come through with advice. I guess I'll be heading to the paint store to look through lots of color samples. I wish there weren't so many to choose from!
