Monday while I was at work I noticed a bite like thing on the back of my knee (right in the bend of my leg) well of course I couldn't leave it alone and by yesterday it was red and hugely swollen. I could not get into my dr the first he can see me is Friday. I went to Convenient Care and they gave me an antibiotic. She said it would probably take 48 hours to work. I have take 4 pills so far and it looks more swollen then ever. Should I go the ER tonight or wait it out?

How swollen is it? Bigger than a golf ball? Are you running a fever?

it was bigger then a softball yesterday and bigger now!! where the swollen part meets me leg now has like a white ring around it. Or maybe that's just the swelling.
no fever

It might be MRSA....I'd go to the ER immediately.

A fancy name for a methacillin resistant staff infection...but it can spread rapidly and be devastating.

If it is resistant to the antibiotics you are on now, they need to find new ones soon.

Give us an update when you get back! We'll be thinking about you!! :grouphug:

Keep us posted. I was thinking cellulitis or even a tick (lyme disease).

The ER dr thinks it's cellulitis. He gave me ANOTHER antibiotic to go along with the first one. Traced the swelling with a magic marker (I swear it is 10 inches long) and said if it got worse I would probably have to be admitted. So I am glad I went. Thanks for all your advice!!!!!!!!!

My daughter gets that EVERY time she is bitten by a mosquito. We keep antibiotics on hand now to start when she gets bit! If not treated it can be VERY serious!

Yes, very serious, so definitely keep an eye on it. I never realized how serious it was.

My DD had this 2X on her eyelid. She was hospitalized both times for it - the 2nd time at my insistence because the oral antibiotics did not work. She needed IV antibiotics so I just insisted on starting them the 2nd time around.

illini - Really, really keep an eye on it. If the swelling goes up even the slightest call the Dr. or go back to the ER. Let us know how you're doing.

:grouphug: Hope it clears up. Good thing you went to the ER

What new antibiotic did he give you? A co-worker of my husband's had cellulitis and had to be hospitalized for it twice because the oral antibiotics weren't working. Definitely keep a close eye on that and get back to the ER if it doesn't start looking better! Keep us posted and take care. :grouphug:

How are you feeling? I've had this from a bite, but I responded to the antibiotic and didn't have to have any further treatment. Hopefully you're doing ok!

I am taking the generic versions of Keflex and Bactrim. They also are anticipating a yeast infection since I am on 2 antibiotics so I got a scrip for that too-great......
It does look better today, smaller but kind of purple. I go back to the Dr tomorrow. I am glad you guys scared me to death last night I hate to think how much bigger it would have gotten. Looking at my magic marker marks from last night it was mid thigh to mid calf.......pretty!Thanks for caring you guys made me fell special!

Cellulitis is the pits. Both my wife and father had to stay in the hospital for days hooked up to an IV. They both felt fine, but couldn't leave. It was the most boring times of their lives.

My wife was in the hospital longer for cellulitis than after giving birth, and she didn't feel any kind of pain or discomfort. Then they sent her home with a PICC line in her arm so she could give herself meds for about 10 more days.
