I need househunting advice!

LOL d.kurz. It sounds like you had some interesting experiences. :teeth:

Annemarie, we've been mulling over whether to use an agent or not and your post about real estate lawyers is very interesting. Our funds aren't as much as I'd like them to be so the realtor fee was bothering me a bit but we just assumed that was a given. Of course with a GOOD realtor all of the bases should be covered so its a dilemna.

In our selected area, a new home is certainly very possible but those do tend to be quite a bit more expensive here. So, that's another consideration.

Appliances, home warranty (oh yes!), our regular routine and so much more to think about. This is all such good info!!! Thank you all so much!

janette, does your realtor work in this area? I'm always ready for the name of a good realtor! :)

I'll send you a PM with her name. She was very helpful and has been in real estate here for 20 years. Her office is in Carrollton but she's helped a co-worker of my DH find a new house and sell 2 in Richardson. I'm sure she does some work in Frisco.

Thought of something else that is an issue in this area that might not be other places. Watch the School District on the listings. I often found that the House Listing had the wrong School District. In Carrollton there are 4 different School Districts so it can be pretty confusing. I started looking up any houses on the School District Websites to find out if they really were in that District. I don't know if Frisco is as bad but I know some of the areas around 121 are in Lewisville ISD. That is where we are now and it is a good district, we've been very pleased.
