I seriously need help, and I just don't know where to start! I've gained almost 20 pounds in the last few months, and I don't know if it's stress or what...but I just keep eating. And it's all of the wrong foods. Candy, lots of bread, cookie dough, ice cream, etc. Please, someone give me SOME kinds of words of encouragement and tell me what I can do to get this weight back off. I was in a 12, now I'm in a TIGHT 14. :(

It does sound like stress eating. Try having things around like cut up carrots, celery and such to munch on when you feel the need to snack. Also try exercising when feeling stressed. Exercising releases endorphins that will help you feel better. I find walking to be very good when I'm stressed. It just seems to clear my mind.

Are you going through any kind of an emotional time? I know that when I reach for the cookies and candy is when I'm feeling blue, looking for food to take the pain away, but it only adds to the problem.

BUT YOU CAN DO THIS! Learning to train yourself to recognize your triggers for eating (no matter what they are, stress, emotions, boredom) is one of the biggest steps in stepping away from the cookies and back into those size 12's! :flower:

I just started one of the W.I.S.H. journals. Read through some of them and get an idea of what they are all about. That is the best support that I have found so far! When I feel like eating, I write in my journal and read others' progress. It is very inspiring!! Honey, if I can do it, ANYBODY CAN!!!!

I see that you are getting married this fall...planning stuff like that can make you stressed! But, you don't want to keep feeling bad about yourself before your big day. The best thing if you are binging on sweets is to clean house of ALL sweets. Candy, cookies, ice cream, and the other high starch, low protein things like chips and pretzels. For a few days you may go through a type of "withdrawal"...I know when I have a splurge meal or family holiday with lots of refined sugar and starches I get a headache that night and sometimes the next day because I don't eat this stuff in my normal eating habits. Once you get these type of things out of your house and get healthier choices (veggies, low fat cheese, low sugar yogurt, apples, watermelon, pears) to replace them, the cravings should subside. Now, I am also a stress eater, but if the stuff isn't around to eat, then you won't eat it, right? I've been known to look in the fridge, look in the pantry, the fridge, freezer and come to the conclusion that a) there's nothing "bad" to eat and b) I don't really want anything now anyway. Usually in about 5 to 10 minutes, you figure that you don't need it and grab a glass of water and that's it. Plus, sometimes, as I've read on these boards, people "diet"...I believe that binging and cravings for sweets and salt is from the lifestyle we live and that no "diet" can change that. It has to be an approach to living everyday, healthy and happy. Plus, exercise everyday does a lot to what you are willing to put in your body. I lift 3 days a week and do 30 minutes of cardio 2 days a week. I can say that for myself, it is a lot easier to eat well when I have worked out. I hope that you get some helpful info out of this....ps...I have 3 kids under 7 and a husband that travels a lot at work so many times I am tempted to eat under stress. But, I think of the longterm goals, and try to think how good I will feel the next morning knowing I stayed on the healthy path. Good luck and congrats on you wedding!
