I need help with trip to DC

My DW and I are taking our son to DC and would like some advice on a good place to stay for a reasonable price. We will not have a car so we want to be right next to the metro. We are flying in to Baltimore. Thanks for your help.

I stayed at the Residence Inn in Alexandria, VA, Old Town. It was very reasonable, breakfast was included, and it was about a ten minute walk to the metro. The trip to downtown D.C. takes about twenty minutes. You can take Amtrak from the airport to D.C., then take the metro to Alexandria. A cab costs about $90. There's a Whole Foods right next to the hotel and lots of shops and restaurants nearby, and it's safe and quiet.

Also the DoubleTree Hotel in Rockville, MD on Rockville Pike. the Metro station is right behind it, a 3 minute saunter.

I second Alexandria. We were there last year in Feb/March. We stayed at the Hampton Inn (Old Town). It was in a great location on the main street in Alexandria. A trolly runs up and down this street to take you down to the waterfront. There are tons of shops and restaurants and it was a safe area that caters to tourists. It was in sight of the metro station (maybe 2 blocks?) but far enough so that you didn't hear the trains. The metro takes you anywhere you want to go in DC. (We did not have a car either...took a shuttle from the Baltimore airport to the hotel.....there may be a cheaper way to get there?) There was also a very extensive continental breakfast with an additional hot breakfast item included in your rate every morning. Check Tripadvisor.....it was rated pretty high and I don't remember what it was exactly but I thought the rates were very reasonable.

I agree-you can also try Embassy Suites in Old Town. Have you purchased your tickets already? If not, fly into Reagan vs Baltimore. You can take the Metro right from Reagan to your hotel so no transfer costs, no bus costs, etc. from Baltimore. Even if the ticket is a few dollars higher you will save money in the long run flying into Reagan.

Try this place - Going into BWI whether you take Amtrak or MARC you will be let off in Union Station.

It is a decent place and only about two blocks (walking distance) from Union Station. I used to work in a building right next to Union Station.
