~*~ HELP ~*~

I really could use some expert advice for our March trip. We will be driving from the Corsicana area (about an hour south of Dallas.)

First of all, what is the best route? Do we go to Houston and cut over or go through shreveport? IS there another route that is better?

This is our basic plan: Friday, leave after school, drive about 6 hours. Saturday, drive about 6 hours (and site see some, see below) and Sunday drive the remainder of the trip and arrive at about 3pmish. Now, how do I do that?

Now for some details/questions:
We will leave on FRIDAY at about 4:00ish (after school). We will drive until about 10 or 11pm. About where will this put us for the night?

We want to arrive at OKW on SUNDAY at about 3pm ish. If we drive about 6 or 7 hours on Sunday where do we need to spend the night on Saturday? Is Pensacola or Tallahassee about 6 or 7 hours from Orlando?

Now, for SATURDAY, my DH is a MAJOR history buff. I want to do something neat along the way to make the trip exciting for him (he's not a big Disney fan). I was thinking about going through one of the battlegrounds or something like that. Any ideas of what we might do or something we might see along the way? We can drive late into the night if we need to so that we can stop at the location that would make our Sunday drive about 6 or 7 hours.

Does any have any ideas that would help me?? I keep looking at our atlas but I don't have a clue as to what the real driving times are between places.

Thanks so much!!

Shari.... with atlas in lap trying to figure things out!

If you went north a bit to catch I-20, you could head south again near Jackson MS. Then you could go to to Vicksburg battlefield. If you drive through Biloxi, you can go to Jeff Davis' home. You could also see the USS Alabama in Mobile, plus go by Dauphin Island and see Ft Morgan.

We drive from Shreveport. We head south on I-49 to I-10 at Lafayette. Head east from there on I-10 to I-12, back to I-10 until we get to just about Lake City FL where we head south on I-75. Take that until you get to FL Turnpike and over to I-4.

We usually leave from Shreveport after work and drive to Daphne, AL (just east of Mobile bay) and that's about half way (~ 7 hours, 450 miles - we get there late, about midnight). We leave early the next day (6:30 or 7) and hit WDW about 2PM (you lose an hour heading east). Pensacola is about one hour east of Daphne. Tallahassee is about 3-4 hours from WDW.

So, about how many hours is it from Pensacola to Orlando? If we stayed Saturday night at Pensacola and left Sunday morning (around 8ish) do you think we would avoid the 'bridge' traffic and be able to arrive at Pensacola mid afternoon?

Thanks!!!

Took me about 6 hours.

Hi! We drove in '03 and we used two different routes. On the way, we went I-20 to Jackson, MS (Vicksburg is about 50 miles west of Jackson and the Civil War battlegrounds are interesting. You are probably looking at about a 6-7 hour drive or so to Vicksburg). Then we took HW 49 south at Jackson to I10. We stopped in Tallahassee and had an easy morning's drive into Orlando. On the way home we tried the Lafayette/I49 route and found it to be almost the same time-wise but more painful scenery-wise. Meaning there is NOTHING for several hours! We like the "over to Jackson and down" way much better! We are planning to fly in May, so we won't be doing the drive again, but I personally like to drive because you get to take all your "stuff"!!!
Good luck and have a great trip!
