After reading a different post, I now think UY might be a little more important than I thought it was at first.

Hubby and I like to vacation in October or early November OR late January to early spring.

We aren't that picky and are very flexible.

My guide said that UY isn't that important and she can give me an October UY.

Does that sound best for us??

That should be good, because that puts your trips in the begining of your use year. That means if you have to cancel, you will have plenty of time to bank those points.

yeah, oct is great (you still have to cancel more than 30 days in advance BTW) - but you should have plenty of time to either book another reservation in that UY or else to bank your pts for next year.

I don't think picking a UY is really that important in the scheme of things simply because you are buying into DVC for 30-40 years and who's to say that your vacation plans today will be the same as your plans in 20 years. Plus, the UY really only comes into play if you have to cancel a ressie and how often will you cancel a ressie... really ??

I choose October only because it was available when I called DVC AND I was able to get current year points and bank them...to me that was far more important.

October would be a great UY for your travel dates. We like to go in Oct, Dec, Jan and May. We have an October UY and it works great for those dates. You can bank your points at any time during the first 8 months of your UY. For an Oct UY, you can bank your points between Oct 1st and May 31st so that covers all of your travel dates. If you cancel a trip (provided you do so 31 days or more in advance) the current UY points used for that trip can be banked. If you used banked or borrowed points they aren't bankable but you would still have several months to use them for another trip.
