i have always been a little jittery when it came to flying, but ive flown many times.
well today i witnessed a small plane crash while at target and i declared, im not going. im freaking out. i have to go, but i dont know that i can:sad1: i leave in 12 days and never in my wildest dreams did i think i would ever see that.

so what do you do? is there medication i can take? this is still new, but i cant see it going away.

Yeah, there are some medications your doctor could prescribe to ease the tension. If all else fails a few Bloddy Marys may help too :goodvibes

oh my bloody marys at 10am? ive never had one....not sure i could get over the tomato juice:scared:

Perhaps a Screwdriver.....heck if you're leaving at 10am thats almost noon, forget the juice and just order something on the rocks. :thumbsup2

If you don't want a hard liquor in the morning Baileys and Coffee is always a good combo any time of the day!

mybe alcohol would be a good idea, it would knock me out. i dont drink at all. or maybe it would make me more paranoid...aaarghh...

We must be neighbors, I live about 3 miles from Hannafords. I was not there when the plane crashed but I certainely heard the sirens. I was just watching it on the news, I was so sad to hear that the parents left behind 4 yr old twins .

I'mthatgirl, I noticed your location-Boston and found a Fearless Flying course in your area. Here's the link: http://fearlessflying.net/
I realize your next trip is in less than two weeks, but it might be something to consider after you get back. I knew someone who took a similar course offered in Denver and found it very helpful. Best of luck to you.

I am actually in Mansfield.

As far as flying goes, I know it is hard but try not to worry about it. I would NEVER fly in one of those small planes, I feel they are dangerous but I have no problem flying on a commercial plane. Definately talk to your doctors and see if maybe they can give you a very mild sedative.

I wanted to add that it looks like you have a small child. Maybe you can consentrate on them for the flight and that will help keep your mind at ease. If you stay calm for them they will see that flying is nothing to worry about. Sometimes all it takes is for us to get our minds off of what is worrying us to make things a little easier.

i keep telling myself that its not the same kind of plane. its just not soemthing you see everyday, right. my husband says in a week ill be so excited to go, ill forget about it. but i dont know. i think itll be on the news for a while.
i didnt watch the news, i dont know where they were from. were they local? :sad1:

i have 3, 2,4 and 8. they were all with me too. i did my best to stay calm and i turned around and tried to leave, but that wasnt happening. so i went to target like nothing happened, i didnt know what to do. but youre right, i cant show them my fear.

It was an angel of mercy flight. The husband was I belive 43 and the wife around 38 . They are from NY , they were on there way to Dana Farber so the husband could have cancer treatment. I do not know the age of the piolet all I know is that they( the pilots ) are volunters to help out people who can not afford transportation.

I can't even imagine seeing the accident. As much as we don't like to always agree with our DH, yours is right. You are much safer on the commercial flight. I am sure you will be a little nervouse as you are waiting to board but due your best not to work yourself up to much.

I'm sorry to hear about this, that poor family! They definitely need many prayers.

The thing is, something like this really does affect many people, even those not related to them in any way. I definitely don't think you are being selfish here at all. Things like this make us think, and we hug our kids and loved ones that much tighter, grateful to be safe, yet sad for what has happened. But, it's not unusual to put ourselves in that situation and relate to what has happened and worry that it could happen to us, just as it happened to them. We know that 'there but for the grace of God...'

Especially with you seeing this accident, and flying so soon, it's no wonder you are feeling so scared and vulnerable, and I'm sure you are not the only one. It doesn't take away from your compassion and empathy for the affected family.

Concentrate on the differences and reasons why your situation is different and safer(bigger commercial plane), and know that their situation doesn't doensn't change whatever your situation is meant to be. Continue talking when you need to and I think eventually you will find some peace with the situation! Good luck!

I heard about that plane crash. Very tragic. But....just try to remember that you are safer on a plane statistically than you are in a car.

I love to travel. But I am finding myself hating to fly more and more. Maybe it's because my kids are with me and I feel like I have no control if something does go wrong. I don't want anything to happen to anyone, but can't do anything about it. I am the control freak in our family. LOL!

Now when we fly, I literally take a few minutes to calm myself and say a prayer before I board...really works. I'll go off by myself for a few minutes....dh totally understands this.

Then when I get on the plane I order a glass of wine. Don't care what time it is. After all, it's 5 o clock somewhere, right! LOL!

I also limit caffeine before I fly. Most times we have a morning flight and I love my coffee. But when I'm flying, it just adds to my nervousness so I only have a sip or two and then drink a warm herbal tea which I find comforting. Silly, huh. I also make sure I don't have any chocolate beforehand either since that has caffeine.

On occasion I have also taken two motrins before I fly. I know it's a pain killer, but for some reason it seems to help me not be so tense. I'm sure there are other things you could take, but I usually have some on hand and I think it is pretty safe.

Another thing I do is buy a few stupid magazines that I enjoy but never buy any other time. It's like a special treat that helps take my mind off things.

Good luck to you! Remember your trip will be so worth it!!!!
