I need help deciding among these 3 restaurants: Big River Grill, ESPN club, and Cape May Cafe. I am leaning toward one of the two on the boardwalk. What is your opinion? Thanks!

It depends on what you are looking for. We go to ESPN Club but only if there is a game we want to watch. The food is fine, but nothing to get excited about. Big River Grill is not good, IMHO. Cape May is really nice - good food, lovely atmosphere. If you want to eat on the Boardwalk and aren't interested in seeing a game, I would consider Trattoria al Forno.

The only reason we wouldn’t do cape may is because we are eating 50’s prime time for lunch. I was thinking one of the boardwalk restaurants for maybe just appetizers. My husband loves sports.

I only like big river grill if I can sit outside. Inside is loud and sardine like seating. Never again!

If you may not want a meal than cape may buffet shouldn't be in the running.

ESPN might be a good choice as long as it isn't during a big event ( NCAA basketball tournament, College Football , NFL games etc.) If nothing big is going on it's usually easy getting a table . Another option could be the Crew's Cup lounge in YC. Small menu but we really enjoyed our lunch last trip.

haven't tried the other 2, but we've eaten at Big River Grill several times and enjoyed it. A good variety or choices. I do agree about sitting outside. Much nicer than inside if weather allows.

DH & I enjoy Big River Grill. We like to share some apps & sit at the bar, it's just nicer in there than in the dining room.

That is an important piece of information that you failed to communicate.

Doesn’t ESPN take reservations?

No. Not in the evening. ESPN only takes lunch reservations weekdays

Cape May is the only one of the 3 we have tried and we like it so I would have to vote that way.

Agree that if you don't want a big meal, skip Cape May! Given that your hubby likes sports, I'd go to ESPN for apps.

However, there are other options around the BW and YC/BC area depending on your mood. The lounges at YC/BC (Martha's Vineyard at BC and Ale & Compass and Crew's Cup lounges at YC) have apps and drinks. Ale & Compass restaurant is also available for apps or a light meal. You can also get apps at Todd English Bluezoo Lounge at the Dolphin. Same at Shula's lounge (as well as soups and salad).

You will likely be STUFFED after lunch at 50s PT. We had an early lunch there a few yeas ago and a late dinner at Artist Point the same day. We were so stuffed that we just split apps at AP. It was a lovely experience, but your thinking is correct about going somewhere for a lighter meal after a 50s lunch.

If you don't want a big deal, I'd definitely skip Cape May. ESPN is a good if there is a sporting event on that your husband wants to watch. Otherwise, it's pretty much just classic sports bar food. We always like Big River Grille. If you like to try different beers Big River Grille is a good choice.
