Hi all! I need A LOT of advice on where to vacation, other than Disney, for a quick, romantic, Thursday- Sunday trip. Dh and I are looking into going for our anniversary in late April, early May of next year. We have done NYC, Niagra, Florida, Hawaii, Cabo San Lucas. We both are from Charleston, SC, not living there now, but are very familiar with Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, Savannah,GA and the surrounding areas in NC. So those places are out. Dh flies into Chicago and Boston frequently so those are out. Can anyone help me find the perfect get-away off the beaten path? I had considered Napa Valley, but don't Know much about it!! Please, please HELP ME! :flower:

San Francisco, Seattle, Miami, Bermuda?

How about a four day cruise?
I went on a cruise only once, to the Bahamas, and I relly felt like it was a waste for me...not a big drinker, and don't like to gamble, so...i have never done it again. Dh wouldn't be happy either, for the same reasons I stated. Do you think I am missing something, because it seems so many people LOVE to cruise? :confused3
Ziva--YES! I have never been to any of these places! Always wanted to go to San Francisco and I just found out it is 50 miles from Napa...Bermuda, maybe...Have you ever been? We went this year to Cabo San lucas and I thought I would never want to Vacation anywhere else. But it is going to be a Quick trip and I don't want to be pressured into doing something at all times...Thanks for the input! Any more suggestions?

Las Vegas is nice. You could take a gondola ride which is romantic. A day trip to Hoover Dam and the surrounding area. See a great show. It's a whole lot more than gambling.

Thanks for THAT idea! :flower: I had forgotten about Vegas! Never been there, but wanted to go. DH has been there many times for work (he gets to go to all the really cool places) and he has stayed at the Venetian as well. But I have been to the real Venice, and done the gondola thing. I think it would be fun, though! Anywhere else? Thanks!!!! :sunny:

Dh and I are going to go on a Disney 3 night cruise (Thursday to Sunday) for our 10 year anniversary in August. We went on our first Disney cruise last August and loved it! There's no gambling on the Disney cruise (except for Bingo), DH does not drink at all and I only drink on occasion, but we still had an awesome time! There is so much to do on and off the ship....we can't wait to go back!

What cruise did you on before? We've only cruised with Disney before, so I don't know how others compare.

I would say Vegas too. It will be a nice time of year. There are so many things to do.

What about California?
West Palm Beach, FL

OOOHH! Ya'll are all sooooo sweet to help me out! Thanks to each one of you! Okay, when I went on the cruise, I admit I was a lot younger (before marriage and kids) and we went on Carnival Criuse line. I forgot the name of the ship, but it was one big party! I just don't think I'm up to a trip like that, now that I'm an old lady! ;) Maybe a Disney Cruise would be the perfect thing?!
I have only flown into California on the way to Hawaii, never stayed there. Where is a really fun place to go and do things and not be exhausted from your vacation once you get home? ( I hate that feeling!) Thanks you guys!

Flying into San Francisco, renting a car and driving up to the Napa Valley would be great! There are so many unique wineries & restaurants to visit. There's a magnificent culinary institute too. I haven't been on the Wine Train - but I hear it's a fun way to visit several of the wineries.

DH & I are trying to figure out where to go for a few days just after the first of January. hmmm...Napa is sounding good! Las Vegas has appeal also. Have fun booking something.

I just looked at the wine train web site! It looks like a lot of fun. If you decide to go to Napa, please let me know how your trip went! It sounds so romantic and relaxing...I'm really leaning this way now...thanks! :goodvibes

I don't know about romantic but the Maine coast is beautiful. Lots of small towns and great seafood. We loved it! :goodvibes

Hi- could you tell me the time of year you went? I lived in NY for 3 years and I would hate to get a freak snow storm in April/May in Maine, but I would like to go there some day!
Cathrynrose, My DH suggested Chicago, and I have never been. Sell me on it, PLEASE!!! ;)
Jingle, we did Cabo San Lucas this year and where we stayed was AMAZING (it was the place John Travolta had his 50th birthday party) and the scenery was breathtaking. I have never been to Puerta Vallarta...what can you tell me about it, and how long would it take to travel there from the midwest?
Thanks to ALL of you...you are all so special to help point me in the right direction! :sunny:

Well Carnival is known as a party ship. There are much more romatic cruiselines, perhaps you could try Celebrity or Royal Caribbean if a Disney cruise does not interest you :)

I would also suggest Vegas and maybe even someplace like San Destin resort in FL?

We went to Maine the first week of September. The weather was perfect. Cool but very comfortable. The evenings were chilly but a light sweater was enough. :goodvibes

Hi JoBird! I've been to Puerta Vallarta twice and think it's a very beautiful place. We're starting to plan another trip there. We flew out of Milwaukee and it took about 3-4 hrs if I remember correctly. One of our trips was a 4 nighter that we booked a week before we went, and it was well worth it. One time we stayed in the Marina area which is not too far from the airport. The other time we stayed about 20 minutes North of the airport. We liked the Marina area better. We could sit on our balcony and look at the ocean and the mountains at the same time. If there's anything specific that you want to know about, please let me know. Wherever you choose, I hope you have a great time!
