We just got back from our trip and I want to go back. I didn't think it would be this bad, but I really really have to go back soon. My husband could probobly wait a few years, but I think i will just go ahead and "surprise" everyone with a trip for late this year. Anyone else do this? How did you come up with the money without making it a family saving affiar?? BTW..we aren't rich, both college students, with one 4 yo dd. Any ideas???

Thanks a bunch!

DO you mean this year??? That only gives you a few weeks to save.

I am going to guess you mean sometime in the next year or later in the school year. I hide money out of the grocery budget, but I have never saved enough for a whole trip that way.

Well, my daughter used to think we could go to the "Lending Tree" and pick money off the money trees they had in their commercials :rotfl:

Seriously, only you know what you can and can't afford. It might be better to plan a trip far enough out that you know you will definitely be returning - and - will have time to save $$ for it. It would be difficult for me to enjoy WDW if I were doing it on credit - and/or couldn't afford to do the things I wanted to do. Figure out exactly how much your recent trip cost you - add everything in - even souveniers you are telling yourself you won't need the nexxt time around because you were just there - and divide it by the number of days you want to go on your next trip. This is how much $$ you will need.

There are a few things that have helped to get me through the withdrawal of WDW. If you have a Disney store nearby, go and hang out there for an hour. Then, find a good pastry shop and have a yummy pastry (like at EPCOT) and strong coffee. Listen to Disney music in the car. After that, stop at this site everyday for support and start saving your money. I have found that the first trip is usually the most expensive because you seem to buy more stuff and after that it feels OK to look but not purchase and that most people are not aware of codes, etc. on their first visit. You will get through this and eventually will get back there!

I think that the first thing to do would be to make a budget. This will give you an idea as the whether another trip in such a short timer period is even possible. It doesn't have to be a detailed budget but it should include the big 4: transportation, accomodations, food and tickets.

If you'll be flying, you can research fares without booking them. Try SideStep.com for airfare from your area to MCO. If you're not staying onsite, you'll also need to budget for ground transportation (either a rental car or airport shuttle service). If you'll be driving to Orlando, you can estimate gas costs at AAA's Fuel Cost Estimator. Don't forget to add in any road tolls.

For hotels, you can get a good idea of what your costs will be right now. Disney's rates for 2006 have been available since last summer. Most Orlando hotels have their 2006 rates published, too.

Tickets can be purchased at a discount from online brokers like Ticketmania, DiscountOrlandoVacation or TheOfficialTicketCenter. Check their prices for the tickets that you'll need and total up the costs.

For food, you can spend as little or as much as you want. You can always have breakfast in your room instead of eating at a restaurant. You can have lunchmeats, peanut butter, jelly and bread for sandwiches when you get back in the evening. Our family of 4 budgets $125/day for food but I've got 2 teenagers and we do one sitdown meal each day. You could get by on much less. DisneySteve manages to feed his family of 3 on less than ½ of what I spend.

After you've added up your estimated costs, divide the total by the number of months that you have to save the money. Does that number look doable? You might be shocked to see how much you would need to save each month in order to get back to WDW so soon. Of course, you can adjust the budget by reducing the number of days that you stay, dropping magic plus, hopping or no-expiration from your tickets or skipping the character meals.

To save for the trip, you'll have to spend less or make more. If you're already living hand-to-mouth, spending less may not be possible. If you have a comfortable lifestyle, you should be able to squeeze a little from the budget by being frugal with your spending choices. Given that you're going to school and raising a child, I don't know if a part-time job is even worth mentioning. You might have more success by eBaying some of your DD's outgrown toys and clothes. You might find that it is all that you need to do in order to make your Disney money.

I was once a poor college student as well and WDW was never within my budget. I can't imagine trying to go to school and raise a family at the same time. I admire you for being able to accomplish both. I'm sure that someone who can do those things can also make room in her budget for a WDW trip...it just might have to be a little later than you would like it to be.

Nicole, these are a few ways to start squrilling away money so no one knows. First of all when you do the shopping, enter the amount before coupons, store savings, and bottle returns if you have them in your state. Easy $20-30 a month. I also do saving change and once in a while I throw a few singles(again $25 a month for me). Another place I get a couple of hundered dollars is by using my debit card as a credit card, I get points at my bank which I convert to a visa Gift card or airline tickets or WDW passes. Another thing is looking for frequent flyer points(do you have any?) Does anyone you know fly alot and not use their points? Check out Starwood or Capital One for a rewards credit card, and pay as much as possible with the rewards cards. You could also ask your parents/family to give checks or cash for birthdays/Christmas or Disney dollars. Something I am going to be trying in 2006 is Ebay...but yard sales are always a big money maker. Plan a few for the spring and summer and get rid of a lot. Good luck in rounding up enough money for your next trip. :sunny: If you are both College student You could sell all texts you are not using.Try to sell privately and not back to the bookstore.

I did this after our first trip years ago. One thing that kept me encouraged (and saved a few bucks because prices went up) was to buy one park hopper at a time as I accumulated the money. I kept my plan a secret until I had all 4 park hoppers paid for and in hand. Then I told DH about wanting to go.

Mystery shopping money helped a little bit. The big thing I did was to REALLY scrimp on my $20/week allowance and stash some of that away every week in a coffee can I had pasted pictures of Mickey and friends on.

Once I had the 4 hoppers, the family got wound up about going and helped come up with airfare etc out of the regular buget. (Things like spaghetti one night a week and the savings feeds the Mickey bank).

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!! I am so excited to start saving for our trip now...in November of 2006!! I know a ways away..but I have to save save save!!!
Thanks again for the ideas.
Magical Wishes to everyone!!

Just as general encouragement. DH and I started our family while we were in college too. We had three by the end of Grad school (the last two were planned, we had great health coverage and didn't want any more space between kids). That was 7 years ago that the 3rd was born, we DH finished his MA that same semester (yikes). We were poor but happy back then, and going to school and teaching a little really worked for us, we never had to pay for childcare. By two years out of school we were able to pay off all student debt and buy a home. You see we kept on living like students (very cheaply) even after DH got a nice full time job.

One way I made money for our first WDW trip (back when we had 1 kid!) was to babysit. I made about $60 a week watching two kids for about 10 hours. I was home with mine anyway. I also made a killing babysitting New Years Eve. I had five to seven kids (mostly 7-10 years old) and made a ton of money (I charged $100 for the first kid and $50 for a sibling)! We always had a blast, it was like a sleepover party. I took the kids from 8pm to 10 am so I only fed them breakfast (and popcorn for a snack). I am thinking of doing it again, it has been awhile since I did that, maybe next year (too late for this year).
