I am shopping for a new vacuum. I want one that can go from carpet to tile to wood floors, without needing manual adjustment. I also want it to be bag less. So give me your pros/cons of your vacuum. TIA

Miele is the best. bagless will put dust back.

Miele is bag plus true hepa.

top of the line.

Get the Eureka Optima. It's lightweight, you can turn the brushes on and off for hard floors and it is very powerful. Plus, it has hose and attachments on board. Best part is that it is only $60. My only complaint is that the cord is shorter than I'd like.

popcorn:: because I'm looking into one also.

What do you need it to pick up? I think I'm going with the Dyson Animal, with 3 cats, a kid and a Newfie, I need something that is really strong.

I can't really recommend one, but I can tell you that I regret getting the Dyson. It doesn't go from hard surface to carpet (at least, mine doesn't). It is unwieldy, especially around the nozzle end which is very bulky. I went from a bag system to a bagless and I hate it. The hard floor attachment is awful, the brush is really flimsy feeling and small. The only thing I like about it is the way it stores compactly in the closet. I got the Animal version because it came with more attachments. IMO it did not live up to the advertising. I wish I had kept my ancient Miracle Star.

Can't tell you what to buy, but a note that I have a bagless (don't know the model -- will check tonight -- I think it's a dirt devil). I hate the bagless and can't wait for it to die. It's a pain in the rump to clean out, and the filter is awful. It's also incredibly loud.

I love my dyson! goes from carpet to wood/hard flooring with the click of a button, which is mostly why I bought it. mine is a ball, and it moves like nothing I have ever seen. I bought it 2 years ago and I still love it...can't say enough about it. its a DC15 All Floors.

Really? Bummer. I have an ancient Windtunnel now, and it takes two hands and all my strength to push that thing. And it sounds like a jet is landing in my house.

That's what I had before I replaced it with a Dyson. I thought that the Windtunnel was cleaning great until one good cleaning with the Dyson. The amount of gritty looking grey dust that came out of my "clean" carpets was DISGUSTING!!!! I'm pretty sure it was just basement dust coming up through the subfloor;)!!!!

That's what I'm afraid of!! And once my Newf get's her adult coat, we'll be ankle deep in black fur if I don't have something with a good pick up.

This vac. conked out on me after 6 months. Was okay while it lasted though.

Bagless is the "new thing", but it is true that from an asthma/allergy standpoint, you do better with containment of particles with a bag. and does suck the cat hair up instead of blowing it around.

I got a Miele about 6 months ago, right after the "cheaper" model came out. (mostly tile floors in my little apt.) It's ok, but not sure that it was worth the $400, think it should be $100 less. Would probably go with the Oreck upright if this ever dies.

We just bought a Miele a week ago! I love it!!! We also have a Dyson, but we read some reviews that it was not good for hardwoods. We just got hardwood floors so of course, we had to get a new sweeper. My DH went to a vacuum store, and Miele is what the guy recommended.

I like my Dyson, but the Miele is much easier to manuever. (sp?) It gets into crevices around my kitchen island very easily.

Good luck!

I love my Dyson! I have the DC 15 Animal that has the ball and it is very easy to maneuver. It is pretty heavy carrying up the stairs though.

It may just be that I got the wrong model, I have laminate flooring and just some area rugs so I use the hard surface tool a lot. I think if I had mostly carpet I would like it better. However, it doesn't really pick up the hair from our Fox Terrier very well but it does a good job on the hair from the Bouvier - so you might be okay with it, if you have mostly carpets. Lots of people really love them; it just doesn't do it for me.

I love the Dyson, as well. I also thought my carpets were clean and couldn't believe what came out the first time I used it!

Another dyson user here. Love it. It does both floor and carpet well. Had a windtunnel and would have to unclog the hoses everytime I used it. Hated it.

I have both a Dyson and a a Riccar. I too fell for the hype of Dyson and believe it is waaay over-priced.
Dyson Pro:
Great suction. One of few that picks up cat-litter
Bagless. Cuts down on costs since I have pets and would go through a bag each sweep.
Dyson Con:
Doesn't have height adjustment to properly agitate different carpet piles.
Dust cup needs to be dismantled and the "HEPA sponges" cleaned every so often.
Bulky. Hard to maneauver under most all furniture.
The head won't "Lock" in any position but straight up.
Riccar Pro:
Agitates the carpet very well. Picks up stuff the Dyson left behind.
True HEPA.
Riccar Con:
Exxxxxxxxpensive! Initial costs and bags. :scared1: And filters need to be swapped out periodically.

I have an Oreck XL Platinum. I have two dogs. I :lovestruc my Oreck.

After having my vaccumes die after a year of use three years in a row (after warrentee ended of course) I finally bought a dyson. Mine transfers really well between my tiled floor to area rug. Whlie I have had some blockages and it is very easy to clean out.It is heavy but I found I make fewer passes so effort wise it is a wash. It is very expensive but if you go through a vacume a year that's not cheap either! Good luck.
