We have a 2 year old malti-poo. male. He is still intact, we were breeding him with a friends dog. That hasn't gone well and the vet suggested the female not try again, she almost died.

Anyway, he has been house trained and we stopped crating him and he has done fine for a year. About 8 months ago he started peeing in the house. WE will be getting him neutered but I was wondering if we should start crating him again, or should the neutering alone fix this. I just had my carpets cleaned and he did fine for a while, now he is peeing again. Also the Vet says there is no infection. HELP. I am tired of stepping on wet pee'd on carpet. YUCK.

I would crate him at night and when you go out until he is neutered. Then try again. Good luck.

You need to treat him as a dog who is not housebroken and not allow free roam and crating again unfortunately.

You cannot allow him to be out of your site.

Use the leash in the house. That way when he starts to go you can immediately correct him. So he is either on leash with you taking him everywhere with you or in the crate. Do not allow free roam.

We did have a hurdle with one of our rescues and that is how we solved it. She had it in her head that carpet was for peeing on. It took awhile but she is good now.

Anxiety? Is he being left alone for too long or has a routine changed in the house giving him time in the house alone that he hadn't had before? Is he being taken out often enough? Are you thoroughly cleaning up the places where he has gone with something like Nature's Miracle? The scent may be still there and he's returning to mark his territory.

Crate him - at night and when you're out of the house. It gives him a secure place to be, keeps him out of trouble, and the whole house stays happy. When he's not crated, I'd take him out a bit more often to make sure he has enough opportunities to do his business outside.

thanks everyone for the replies. His routine hasn't changed a bit. I take him out whenever he asks, and he still does that often. I also take him out right before we go to bet, which is about midnight. He seems to be goin when we aren't home, which isn't that much, but mostly at night. He does sleep with us. (he is such a good snuggler) He must be jumping down at night and going.

He was so easy at first, but now he is just killing me. Oh well, time to get the little guy back in line.

Don't give him so much water at night.

I have one who will sneak away in the night and pee in another room. We cannot catch her and can't crate her (she flipps out when crated. She was abused and spent her life in a cage which by the looks of her teeth, she tried to chew out of.), so we put a baby gate up at night and we have no more problems.

There is a difference between marking and relieving himself. You have to distinguish between the two first. I totally agree with the previous advice of not letting him our of your sight and confining him when you are away.

Do a search of the Cesar Millan site and you will find all sorts of good info.

Go back to crate training. As someone already said...start as if the dog had never been housetrained.

I'm sorry, I had trouble reading the rest of your post after this. It simply blows my mind.

You need to remember you used him as a stud dog. (even though it didn't take) he now has a slightly different mindset. His peeing can also be his *marking* his home to be sure if any other male comes into his home he already has claim to it.

What blows your mind? I mean yes it is horrible that the poor little girl almost died having the puppy, but not being able to read the rest?

True, but he actually started this before we tried mating him. I have never had a male dog so this is all new to me. The vet says that being neutered should help the problem.

Also, we do keep his sister sometimes, friends of ours own her, she is fixed, and it seemed to start after we kept her. I am so confused.:confused3

We will get through it somehow. Other than this issue, he is a great little dog.

I wish he could just come to my house. I think he is great. I will look at his site.

Sounds like he is marking...make sure he isnt peeing on ANYTHING else..just be prepared, he may still mark things even after he is neutered...

I have 3 male pugs, and all have been neutered since they were young...but they occasionally mark...I had to buy a belly band for one of my dogs to where for a while..Now it happens if I leave them alone without supervision..not all the time though, and usually its on something easy to clean, like a towel, or the tile floor...

Probably is marking. The silly little guy loves to get into my youngest sons room, (I read somewhere that this is common, little dogs, little people) almost like they are saying stay away from the little one, my territory, which is sweet in an odd way. lol

Last night I was folding socks, I left a couple of pair out,(I forgot about them). This morning there was a yellow wet stain on them. So I guess I can safely say he is marking.

He actually never is out of my site during the day, if I am home. Like right now, he is laying beside me and will follow me around.

After he is neutered, look into a belly band then if it continues(it probably will) sounds like a dominance marking..mine only due it when no one is watching...

Belly Band is basically a boy dog diaper...its a long rectangle, usually with velcro...you put in a bladder pad then wrap it around his....parts...and when he marks...it stays in the pad, and off your stuff...most dogs begin to associate the icky feeling with the marking, and will stop..some wont..

Thanks so much, I will look into this. I am tired of cleaning tinkle off of things.
