I signed up to fill plastic Easter eggs for GAD and the minimum is 50 per person. I need 250 plastic eggs:scared1:
Anyone have any suggestions where I can get a bunch cheap??

you might try goodwill. I have seen bunches there before. otherwise dollar tree, or the usuals.

Any dollar store...I got a huge bag on clearance after Easter for next to nothing...little late for ya but the dollar stores should have them in big bags...

I would go to Dollar Tree. You can get a pack of 10 or maybe 12 for $1.00, plus get the stuff to go in the eggs while you're there. Or try the dollar spot at Target?

I would try online.

is this specific to your area? Sounds like something fun for the whole family!

I am ultra frugal. I would call my friends first to see if they have any extra they would like to donate to the cause. Then I would check out Dollar Tree and Walmart. I probably would not go online unless I went to ebay. You have to consider shipping costs when you order online.

This won't help with the issue right now but thought I'd share in case it might be a help for the organization in future...

Our junior firefighters (VFD) host a free breakfast w/egg hunt every year the week before Easter for the community. It's a huge expense just for the food, not to mention the candy and they do fundraisers throughout the year to help pay for it.

A few years ago, the kids decided to ask for the plastic eggs back if people didn't want them after they were emptied. They had specified trash cans set up and marked around the building to donate eggs back. The first year I don't remember them getting a ton back - maybe a large trash bag full. Since then though, almost everyone now sits down to enjoy emptying the candy into their baskets while parents take pictures and chat. Now most of the eggs get returned to be used again the following year instead of thrown away at home. It's an easy form of recycling that really cut costs for them...:flower3:

Ask friends! This is what we do every year for church and we get tons in reply. Just let them know what you are doing and I am sure they would be happy to help. Have fun.

I think the dollar tree is a good idea, but Oriental Trading might end up cheaper. lets say Dollar tree is 12 eggs for 1.00 if you do 10 bags that is 10.00 and so 12*10= 120 eggs. PP said Oriental had them 144 eggs for $10, so a better deal even without the 20% off. If you take off the 20% you will be at $8. Not sure what shipping is but am pretty sure it is cheap as long as you do not need it rushed. I had to get something rushed this summer and it was $$$$. If you did the 144, you could prob get another package or 2 from the dollar tree, target, maybe CVS will put them free after ECBs.

So... just checked shipping for you, 6.99 for up to $25 order. Kind of high, but let me think the math through. 9.95(-20%)=7.95 + 6.99 shipping = 15.00 for 144 eggs. Dollar Tree 12 eggs* 15= 180 eggs for $15. Better Deal. As long as you get 10 eggs per $1 at the dollar tree you will be better off there IMO. HTH!:goodvibes

Thanks for all the quick replies. I think maybe I will post on Facebook and see if any of my friends have extra eggs they want to get rid of. Then I will see how many more I have to get from there. I checked craigslist but no luck. Ebay is too pricy. Hopefully the Dollar Tree bags are in 12's. Thanks again so much.

Surfergirl602- I think this would be specific to my area but maybe your local Salvation Army would be doing it too. I found it under my zip code. Should be fun to do:thumbsup2

I have this many in my garage I'd give you if you were my friend -- or even if you weren't my friend but lived by. Our ambulance service did this quite a few years ago and I used to buy the eggs on clearance after Easter. I think I paid about 10 cents a bag.

I have to ask, are you doing this for Roanoke, Va? If so, so am I!!! This is the website that I am going to order the eggs from: http://www.sunnybunnyeastereggs.com/shopexd.asp?id=15

If you look you can buy empty and filled Easter eggs. For 100 filled Easter eggs with candy is only 17.00!!!!

I'm placing my order this weekend. I just recieved the email back from the coordinator today.

I do a big egg hunt every year for my after school group. I have found for the last few years at Walmart a box of 250 eggs for $9. Hoping they get them again this year too!

Oh man, I wish I was near you!!! Thats a great price!!! Oh well, maybe I can find some people near me that will have a stockpile in their garage too:thumbsup2

Yes I am doing this in Roanoke. I actually live in Blue Ridge and thought this would be great for our busy family. The website looks great. I still think I may come out better to do them myself since I have to do 250 and Im not sure what shipping would be. I actually called the coordinator today because I had not gotten an email yet. She said that she had about 35 emails/calls and needed to get on them. I registered on GAD/ Hands Network today and hopefully everything will go smoothly. :thumbsup2

Is this with all the regular Easter eggs? I dont think I have ever seen a box that big with eggs. Do you remember when they put them out?

I say Walmart too. I have seen those huge bags and they put them out as soon as Valentine's is past. Also hit up Goodwill, but I think Walmart has had them in the past cheaper than the Dollar Tree
