With the Epcot and AK/AKL restaurants, this thread is especially directed towards folks from around the world. But, everything at WDW comes from somewhere. So, wherever you're from, does the food at THAT restaurant remind you of you mother's food?

For example, Biergarten for Germans, Sanaa for Indians, Cape May for New Englanders, etc.

I'm with Princess Michelle. Nothing I've eaten at WDW reminds me of my mother's cooking. While I've had some decent meals at WDW they don't even begin to match up to my mother's home cooking.

I'm from North Carolina & Liberty Tree Tavern reminds me how good my mom could cook. Compared to her cooking LTT is on par with hospital food. That goes for most places serving country cooking though. LTT just stands out as being particularly bad at dinner.

My family is from Greece, and I can tell you right now that Kouzzina's is nothing like the food my family can cook!

My Grandmother was from Norway (well her parents were anyway) and the Kjottkake at Akershus tastes exactly like a meal she used to make me in her kitchen. I almost cried the first time I took a bite- she didn't call it that so I had no idea what she used to cook is what I ordered.

My family is from Jersey and eating at Grand Floridans Buffet reminds me of my moms good old mashed potatoes, meat, veggies and bread pudding....

Part of my family is from Germany (great-grandmother)...my grandfather only ate his mother's German cooking (sauerbraten was his favorite, and apple streudel was his favorite dessert). My great-grandma passed away when my mom was a baby, but...

There was one...and ONLY one...German restaurant my grandfather would eat in. The only thing he ever ordered there was sauerbraten. It reminded him of his mother's. The sauerbraten at Biergarten in EPCOT is identical in taste and quality to what we had growing up at that German restaurant (in Queens, NY).

DH and I had gone to Biergarten for the first time in July 2008. 2 months ago on our trip, my parents and sister were also with us, and we all ate at Biergarten together. It was everyone's favorite. My mother said that indeed her dad would have LOVED this restaurant, and it would have only been the second German restaurant he would have eaten in! Wish he was still here so we could share it with him, but the food there brings back a lot of memories for our family! My mom still talks about that meal, and says that she can't wait to go back there again and have some good authentic German food! :goodvibes

So...for me, Biergarten reminds me of the family! ;)

So, thus far, we have some level of confirmation that Biergarten, Akershus, and GF Cafe can produce more authentic results, even with all of the restrictions corporate is putting in place. LTT, on the other hand, is having trouble making do.

Well my Mom gets her cooking chops from my Grandma - who is from the hills of Kentucky - so I would have to say that 50's Prime Time would be the closest to the country cooking my Mom makes. But, nobody beats my Mom's mashed potatoes and fried chicken with chicken gravy. So - 50's is close - but no cigar.

My grandfather is from the old country (Foggia, Italy) and I can say that Tutto Italia feels a little more Olive Garden than authentic Italian. I am trying Via Napoli for the first time in November - so we shall see how it measures up to my Grandpa's homemade pizza.....but I have a feeling how that contest may turn out.....;)

I'm from Long Island and while I agree with other posters that none of the food reminds me of my mothers but the feeling of a good breakfast at the Crystal Palace brings me back to my childhood.

I'm from southern Indiana & 50s Prime Time reminds both DH & I of the food we grew up eating: fried chicken, meatloaf, pot roast... YUM!!

I can't eat Italian food on vacation, unless I am with people whose taste I trust and they have been to the restaurant before. I'm also part Italian (in addition to the German I mentioned on my above post), and there are only select Italian restaurants I go to...most are here in NYC. I haven't been to Tutto Italia, and don't plan to try Via Napoli. I don't like Olive Garden either...to me it tastes like frozen, fake Italian food. I like my usual local places, and of course the food I make at home! ;) There is one Italian restaurant I really like in Florida, but it is all the way in Miami. It's called Mario the Baker and it is delicious. But the restaurant is run by Italians from NYC! So, they know how to make good sauce and they don't overcook their pasta!

I'm from Texas and the food from...errrr...Cracker Barrel (?) reminds me of momma.

Well to be fair, it is a restaurant available to WDW guests...who have a car or are that willing to rent a taxi to go off site ;) Other than that, there isn't really anything onsite that's like my mother's/grandmothers' (certainly not WDW's idea of biscuits and gravy).

I agree with the comments on Biergarten. It reminds me of my grandmother's cooking.

We are from New Orleans (ok, I am and my DH claims Cajun heritage through frequent exposure!!) and the food at the POR reminded me of my dad's cooking. My dad was the one who made the traditional cajun food not my mom (who did more country/homestyle meals). Ok maybe not the entrees, but the Bananas Foster dessert was phenomenal!
