There must be something about my dad's house that makes me lose my mind. We were going over what was being made for Christmas dinner when I realized we had no dessert. I had been thinking about it for a while and at that moment I agreed to make a flan for Christmas dinner. I think I finally remembered why I only make this maybe once (at most twice) a year.
First of all, I had no ingredients at all for this. So I ran to the store and got my evaporated milk, condensed milk, eggs & pan that I needed to create a double boiler effect. Even though I didn't go to the store until 9 pm it was still a mad house and about 30 minutes later I got out of there.
So I come home and decide that I need to make the caramel sauce from scratch. If you want a good way to make some of the stickiest & messiest stuff in the world... make caramel sauce straight from sugar. So after I got that all started I mixed in the nice and sticky condensed milk in with the eggs and all that. After getting that caramel sauce into the pan to cook with the custard mixture I get the joy of sticking that pan into the boiling water in the over... with only one oven mit... when I find the other, I'll let you know
So here I sit now with minimal burns on my hands... waiting for that hour this thing has to cook to pass when I realize I forgot to add the vanilla to the custard mixture
I must be crazy to have thought I could get this done tonight... just pray it tastes okay on Wednesday
