I am so mad at myself. I won't bore you with details, but I forgot to turn in some paperwork last week. I also somehow missed an email from my boss's boss about the paperwork and just saw it today:scared1: I am off until the 4Th. I emailed them both this morning about it, but it's Christmas eve, I'm sure they aren't checking email. Anyway, now I am kicking myself and am fighting off a panic attack about it and there is nothing I can do.
No need to tell me it's all my fault or that I should be a better employee, or that there are many people without a job who would be happy to turn in paperwork at the right time, I already know.

It happens. People make mistakes. You did what you could do when you realized it. Unless you do it often or have bosses who don't understand that their employees are human and make mistakes, it'll be okay. I know how stressful it is when you realize a mistake and can't fix it immediately!

First of all, these things happen. It's called being human - we all make mistakes. Second, is there any way you can make a quick stop in to work before the 4th to turn in the paperwork?

They won't be there, but I did mention in my email that I would go in and take it to our main office on Monday if that was fine with them.

You are accepting responsibility and offering a solution. I would be very satisfied with that if you were my employee. Now, try to calm down. And stop beating yourself up!!

It's happened to many of us, me included! Please don't let it ruin your holiday. Just do whatever you can to rectify it. If your office is open this week or next perhaps you can go in and take care of it or enlist a co-workers who's there to help you out.

Please don't stress over it. It will all work out!:)

I would definately do this. Don't stress about it. You handled it professionally. If it was something that was needed ASAP, I'm sure you would've gotten a phone call. Get it done and move on. Everyone makes mistakes!

Thanks for all your encouragement. I am a worrier by nature (my least favorite quality about myself.) I knew I was procrastinating, and then it slipped my mind. I wonder why the worry never slips my mind, but the important stuff gets lost in there a lot.;)

It's happened to me. I am a trainer and if I'm doing a class all day I will have a ton of e-mails when I sign back on. Sometimes I miss things or just forget. Do you use Outlook? I started using the flags to help me so that when I quickly review my e-mail I can flag important things and then later sort by the flags.

I think offering to go in Monday at least shows you are willing to take care of it ASAP.

 I know how you feel. It's too bad it is ruining your holiday.

Don't let it ruin your holiday. You've done the 2 most important things already. Admitting you made a mistake and offering a viable solution.

I've had employees who wouldn't do either and it would drive me nuts but since you've done both, I'm sure your boss will appreciate it and all will be well.

I remember you from a late-great thread!

Hugs to you . We tend to blow it out of proportion when we screw up.
If you are anything like you present yourself here on the Dis, they will understand that it was a mistake. You are a good person. They know that.:flower3:

Merry Christmas all!:santa:

What a sweet thing to say! That just made my Christmas Eve even more special. Thank you!
Merry Christmas:goodvibes

It's very difficult sometimes to remember ALL the things we have to do at work. Most of us are just swamped with e-mails and trying to keep up is sometimes impossible, so try to keep this in perspective and enjoy your holiday.

Been there several times...and I sit and stew over it. In fact, I just realized Tuesday that a deadline was coming up for an estate and there was no way to get the return in on time. But, the executor has not provided the information needed anyway, despite several requests. I feel responsible for not using this deadline to try to prod them into action, though. Definitely had bigger screw-ups than that too. Seems it happens a lot on Friday so I have the entire weekend to worry. Always feel better to talk to the boss and work out a solution!
