For not much more I can switch from the Yacht Club to the Poly. I have read so much about so many people loving the Poly that I am considering it. I have never stayed at either resort. Help me decide.

Facts: not really going to swim, would like a nice looking room, husband hates walking forever like at CBR, will be visiting each park, looking for a nice time that will inspire my husband to take another trip to Disney!

How long will you be staying at WDW? You may want to consider a split stay. It's like getting two vacations for the price of one. At YC, you get easy access to EPCOT and MGM, while at the Poly you get easy MK access.

Too funny! That's exactly what I did for my trip at the end of September! I was torn about which one to stay at as well, but I chose the Poly, mainly for the convenience of having the monorail go to both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot from the close-by TTC. I think that the BC looks just beautiful, but the big draw there is the pool. If that's not all that important to you, I think the Poly is probably a little more convenient.

I have stayed at both and my preference now is the poly. We're more in tune with the MK and from the Poly its a short boat ride or monorail trip. Seeing the MK from the poly beach and the lights of the CR and GF is a sight to behold. If we want to go to EPCOT, we just catch the monorail to there and we exit out the International Gateway and catch a sandwich at either Beaches and Cream at the BC or a meatball sandwich from Spoodles and then the boat to MGM. From there we bus back to the Poly. Also from the Poly we boat to fort wilderness for a great breakfast buffet, cheapest and best in Disney and drinks and pizza at FW in Crocketts Tavern is a high light to us in the late evening and its all a boat ride away. CR's outer rim has a great view and good drinks too. The ambience of the Poly is by far, quiet, serene, and has a hawaiian atmosphere that suits us. But everyone has their favorite. I'ld stay at either, we used to stay at the BC when our daughter interned at EPCOT but we usually ended up busing to the MK.

I think your husband would enjoy the monrail (Polyn) more than walking or the boat (YC).

as had mentioned you can ride the monrail to the MK, take a boat, or walk over to TTC and take the ferry.

you can definitely walk over to TTC and take the monrail to Epcot.

or you can take the Polyn monrail to TTC - your choice.

If he doesn't like to walk - I would try for a building either close to TTC (Tahiti) or close to the lobby. (CH)

the lobby has the restuarants, front desk, gift shops, etc.

We have never stayed at the YC, but we did stay at the Poly and were disappointed. The rooms and halls smelled very musty and although the room was big, a lot of it was bathroom, which was wasted space. Our balcony, if you can call it that, was little more than a ledge and overlooked the parking lot. We were not that thrilled with the pool or the theming. So many hotels are set up like tropical resorts, and this one was not all that unique.

On a positive note, not all the rooms are set up like ours was (we were in the building closest to the left side of the GCH). We loved Ohana and the Luau. We loved Kona Cafe for breakfast and being so close to the monorail. We loved having a daybed, which is not guaranteed at the YC.

Another positive about the Poly is that you are likely to get a renovated room!

Obviously, we can only give you our thoughts, and you can make up your own mind. It's good to go into these things with your eyes wide open. I just wanted to give an alternate point of view on the Poly. To us, it was not the island paradise that some find it to be.

Thank you for your replys. I know it is a personal decision, but I want to make a good one! I too think that my husband would like the monrail better than busing everywhere. I love the magic kingdom, so this is why I am considering the change. We are only staying 4 nights, so I don't really want to split the stay. Thanks again!

JMHO
Having just finished a split stay at BC & Polynesian. Polynesian transportation wins by a landslide. I would much rather take an air-conditioned bus or the monorail over the walk to Epcot or MGM and the boat seems to move at a snails pace.

Hi I understand your dilemma, :confused3
we love the polynesian resort, but as you are going in December my vote would be for the Yacht Club as the Poly imho is not as festive and during a previous December trip whilst staying at the Poly we went to the boardwalk and saw the beautiful decorations in the resorts there. :thewave:
The Beach club, Boardwalk, Yacht Club, Swan & Dolphin are decorated beautifully and walking around them was just magical. There is so much to do there in the evening when the parks close early, so this year we will be staying at the Boardwalk inn for our December trip.
I also think that EPCOT is particularly wonderful at this time of year and from the Yacht Club you are within walking distance of it and MGM. There are also lots of adult type restaurants in the resorts and on the Boardwalk itself, I'm sure your husband will love it there. :Pinkbounc

I have never stayed at the Yacht but have at the Beach Club & the Poly. I like the Beach Club over the Poly only if it is summer & I want their pool ;) otherwise, the Poly wins hands down! We are staying at the Poly over Christmas this year & my Aunt & Sister will be at the Beach Club. I had said to them that we should switch room for 2 of the nights so we each can stay at both. When I told that to my husband... he wanted to make sure we didn't do it on the days he will be up there with us. He loves the Poly. As he says, he works hard & when he goes to Disney it is to relax (he isn't a park person & will not go to the parks). He thinks the Poly is the most relaxing resort he has ever been to.... (in or out of Disney). So my real vote here would be for the Poly.....especially since you have said your trip isn't to swim.

I've stayed at both, poly in 1999 and YC in 2000, 2001 and 2002 -- I guess that makes it pretty clear which I prefer! The pool is part of the reason, but we also LOVE the location. Our family likes Epcot and MGM Studios a lot, and it's nice to be near two parks. We also like to be near Epcot for the food -- we do a lot of our meals in World Showcase. After a hard day of theme parking, I love to soak my tired muscles in a hot tub and the lack of even one is a big drawback for the poly IMO.
