I love you all, but Ohana is NOT an Irish Pub!

We 2, I mean to, I mean too, I mean two will be dinninning at 'O'Hana's in 2, I mean to, I mean too, I mean Three weaks.

Ok, I have one that makes me smile, because I haven't seen it spelled correctly on this board yet. (I freely admit I don't read every post.)

It's, "Let your conscience be your guide." I keep seeing it spelled wrong. I don't mean the occasional typo. I am so guilty of that myself.

I've seen people use "prolly" when it should be "probably". What is that?!!!

I think that one is legitimate as it's abbreviated for message boards and texting. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

So when are you going to O'hana's O'Jiko's and O'Boma's?

Gee, the last one almost sounds like my U.S. Senator from Illinois!

OMG!! I noticed that one too. Truthfully when I saw that, I thought the person was "under-educated", shall we say. I didn't realize it might be a slang. I am going to ask my DD who seems to be the queen of IM-speak.

This thread is a riot Gotta love people who make fun of other people for misspelling the name of a restaurant when in reality, they are both equally wrong :lmao:

:lmao: :lmao: Ok, I am off to read the menu for that steakhouse in Canada. You know, La Cellar.

This half-Irish girl had O' and Mc added to her name on almost a daily basis growing up!! BTW, I haven't tried O'hana's, but I have been to Jiko's, and I frequently shop at Barnes and Noble's, Walmark, and Penny's!
me too

Yep, you're right. Prolly is just easier to type than probably.

I'm so happy that someone has mentioned this:

"And while we're at it, there's one that drives me insane!!! It's dining, not dinning. There are only two, not three, ns. We're going to become highly sophisticated, technologically supreme illiterates if we're not careful."

Sorry, couldn't figure out the quote thing. :rotfl2:

I have actually typed out a post to say, "it's Dining, NOT dinning! Dinning rhymes with winning!" Then I delete it because I am a chicken. It feels so good to get this out, I could cry.

Okay, I nearly fell out of my chair laughing my as. . .umm. . .bum off. My laugh for the day! And since we're all trying to get things off our chests, it's buses in which we travel; whereas, it's busses when we kiss someone. I love this thread! :rotfl2:

Neat - another thread that makes fun of people who can't spell. I bet none of the people who type dinning instead of dining or desert instead of dessert have learning disabilities that make written communication difficult for them. I bet none of them have been humiliated in school and have had to get up courage just to post to a written communication board. If you know what the person is trying to say why can't you just be tolerant of their short comings?

It's one thing to make a mistake, but to make a mistake when trying to be superior....If you consult your dictionary single "s" or "ss" are both acceptable(exceptable!) forms (as in big yellow). Busses, bussed, bussing, are just as correct as buses, bused and busing. I will confess that I stumbled across(acrossed!) this information when a note came home from school offering "bussing". So... don't be in such a hurry to make fun of someone, because it can backfire!

And while we're at it, Narcoossee's DOES have three consecutive double letters (and an apostrophe!)

It was explained to me that the apostrophe in front of 'Ohana is not a possessive or a contraction, but represents a glottal stop that is part of the Hawaiian language. In fact, the name Hawaii itself is properly spelled Hawai'i (check it out at http://www.hawaii.gov/portal/). So if we let Hawaii go, I suppose we can live with Ohana too.

But definitely not O'Hana! Drives me to drink -- think I'll go down to Raglan's and grab a cold one.

I can see using this shorthand when you IM or text on your phone. However, when writing a full paragraph on a message board such as this, I think people have time to spell out the word completely. There were no other cases of shorthand, IM-speak in the paragraph.
