I love this part of the Dis

I agree with you all that the DL side of the board is much nicer than many other forums. :thumbsup2

Honestly I think a big part of it, is that this side of the board is smaller and attracts more regulars, so we have a tighter group. I think that fact that we know so many people's names (sometimes even real names) it makes it harder to be mean, since it makes it more like a real person, than typing on a moniter.
I've heard that lots of message board websites are much less friendly, less forgiving and more argumentative than even the CB here! It seems to me that the Mods on the DL side of this site keep closer tabs on the threads and sort of nip problems in the bud, whereas in other areas (the CB, for one) things are moving so fast and maybe the Mods can't or choose not to monitor as closely, stepping in only if things really get ugly. (And boy, do they get ugly at times!) :sad2:

I think some people relish the anonymity the internet provides, and perhaps feel free to express their feelings less politely than they would otherwise. Or perhaps people whose behavior is less socially acceptable find it easier to express themselves online? I don't know. I think some people just like to make waves, and hear themselves talk. :confused3

West Coasters FTW :hyper:

I too don't go around too much outside the DLR board but I did notice people can get testy. I was in the LGMH thread in the WDW board and noticed that they were fighting over how many paint chips you should take. :lmao:
Oh my, seriously?

LOL They would have hated me then, since DBF took a WHOLE PACKET of them from under the counter! LMAO!!!! :rotfl2: That still cracks me up...anyone need a LGMH? :lmao:
Oh my gosh, the first thing I thought of was 'I hope that girl whose DH took a whole package of them didn't venture over there! :rotfl2:

I post all over the place.....here, Community Board, Budget, Family, Dining, and trip planning. So I try to keep up with posts that I have on different threads when I can. But I find that sometimes you can post something, pop to another board to check things out, then if time passes before you check back, some people can get nasty that you posted and ran. Some out there expect you to keep up with each post the whole time. If you post something they want to "discuss" and you haven't come right back, they start posting that you are scared to come back, or that you are "hiding" or what not. Its crazy.
All true. Sad, but true. I've left threads that were going downhill and turning ugly. Why stick around for that? :rolleyes2

I also let a couple of people "get" to me. One started stalking me (posting after my posts and twisting my words to sound mean-spirited when they were meant as encouraging and helpful; it was totally bizarre!) so I actually left the DIS for a few weeks. Nutty people are everywhere, unfortunately.

If anyone wants to venture onto the CB, check out the Hyena thread; we're all from the DL forum, just a group of friends who chat. Everyone's welcome! ;)

ETA: I wanted to add that there are many wonderful regular posters on the other forums who are very nice, kind and helpful. Perhaps there are just a fraction of the folks on a particular forum who are less friendly but they are more vocal? I would not want to to discourage anyone from venturing out if they wish to do so, just do so with your eyes open. And should you hit a bumpy spot, don't take a stranger's opinion of you too seriously; in the grand scheme of things, is what that person thinks really so important?

Well as long as we're all happy right where we are, who cares what the other people think :)

Well said Alex!!!
:thumbsup2

I too have hung out on some of those video game message boards (although I don't know why, some of those places are just horrendous) and as a whole, the DIS is so much more civil than most of those places it's ridiculous. I haven't been around the DL board much though (I kind of wander in and out of the site as I plan things, and my last trip was WDW in December, and have been giving some thought to DLR sometime later this year if I can make it work out) but the site as a whole seems to be more friendly than most I've been at.

:goodvibes :worship: ::yes::

Its true on other websites there can be a lot of negativity. But so far everyone on the Disneyland boards seems to be really helpful and friendly. I havent been on too many other boards on the Dis yet, but what I see, I really like. Thanks guys N gals :thumbsup2

Honestly, the only time I go over to the other boards is when I'm up at 2am and no one else where is awake. :cool1:

Even still, it's just so ... big out there.

I started on the WDW side gathering info for our family's trip in Sept 08 and noticed that discussions can turn ugly quickly. My husband and I grew up in Orange and went to DL many times. I haven't been since 1995 (shortly before we met, so we haven't been together yet). We are going in June (with our DS7 and our DD3) and I have been researching because although it is a place we both know and love, you can imagine the changes since 1995! My husband has never even been on Indy. Anyway, DL is definitely our home park, although we had a great time at WDW, and you guys are the best, always very welcoming and giving great info! I enjoy the more laid back so cal attitude! We plan on going to DLR more often, since my in laws live in Joshua Tree, we can combine a trip with a visit. My brother in law also recently moved to Anaheim and lives two miles away. What I wanted to say most was, you guys rock!

I can't say anything about the WDW forums here, or any other place, but I don't think that they are any rougher because they're not Disneyland-related.

I'd say that this particular forum seems much friendlier than others out there simply because the people who post here want it to remain so. There are those who like to argue about DL-anything and everything. There's a forum on another site that attracts these folks. I remember a heated thread on that board about the precise shade that a princess' dress ought to be. It seems that when the discussion is dominated by very frequent visitors to DL, people have formed strong opinions about what DL should keep/update/improve/junk and aren't shy about expressing them.

Oh, that's hilarious! I thought that the argument about the LGMH paint chips sounded funny, but arguing about the precise shade of a princess dress takes the cake. That almost makes me want to go to that board and find that thread. I think I would want to read the thread for kicks, then come back to this nice place where people are friendly and kind to each other and where the disagreements aren't so ridiculous!

I did just recently stumble upon a thread somewhere else about what it would be like to have a Halloween overlay on IASW. Not a Nightmare Before Christmas overlay, just a Halloween horror type of thing. Now, the people were not necessarily disagreeing with each other. The thing was, most of the folks wanted a hypothetical bloodbath happening in the ride, with killer dolls and somehow Bolt the dog ending up killed and it just all sounded very diabolical and evil. Plus, they were complaining about how run down IASW looks inside - but it has been spruced up since then and I guess they hadn't seen it yet. Anyway, it seemed like it was a bunch of people who just detested IASW as a ride and wanted to see something bloody and horrific and macabre (yeah, right, not in DL, you won't! That's what the House of Shock in New Orleans is for!). When one person spoke up and said that he/she wondered why these supposed diehard DLR fans hated IASW so much, when it is part of Disney's fabric, he/she wasn't met with any kind of acceptance. Just more IASW bashing.

I have a 'Whatever happened to....' question.

Whatever happened to.....Sy/Crazy Duck?? I would expect him to be jumping in a thread or two here and there, stirring up some mischief, but I haven't noticed him around.

The argument over the color of a princess dress reminds me of Sleeping Beauty. Remember the faries? Make it blue! Make it pink! :rotfl:

I'm glad to hear everyone over is here nice! I hang out on the WDW side too much because I live here in Florida. But DF and I are hoping to honeymoon at DL in August, so I'm hoping you guys will be here if I have any questions!

Absolutely! :thumbsup2 It is best to know what to expect before you get here. It is much different from WDW. :)

I would definitely say the two friendliest boards are the DIS Unplugged Podcast Forum and us here on the DL one. Even the folks who own these boards say the same thing. They aren't fond of going on to the community boards - they do hang out on the Podcast one, though.....

If you've been wondering about me, I've been spending most of my time lately on the Podcast board lately due to the Animal Crossing thread and a few other reasons, soon to be divulged to you guys. I'll be on the DL board much more in the future.

If you don't listen to the DIS Unplugged podcast, you ought to check it out (you can access it from any forum/posting page at the bottom), especially if you ever have any desire to head to WDW. For the record, we here at DL are going to have a bigger voice on it soon. DL correspondents will be having regular segments. I for one, am quite stoked about that......:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I have really enjoyed meeting and spending time with a lot of the DL board folks and you definitely are a special crew! I'm really proud to be a part of y'all!

I know exactly what forum you are talking about and that's exactly why I don't post there anymore. I got tired of people ripping on the tiny things about DLR like chipping hand rail paint or how FP should be gotten rid of (WHAT??? Are they crazy?)

I love these boards because it's more of a helping community. People come here to ask questions and they get helpful responses, and plenty of them. See over on the WDW boards, there are so many people that small threads just get buried under the really long ones. You might ask a question and in an hour the thread will be on the 2nd page and still have no responses. The DLR boards have a good amount of people that there is a ton of useful info, but at the same time, the individual questions are also answered.

DLR Disboards Fanboy for life! :disrocks: (well life is kinda a long time...)

Oh my gosh.

I literally went out of the DLR forum for a "test run" to really confirm all this, and you know, it's like one of those things where you expect its a hit and miss. And ta da, I ventured to the outside world and behold--- arguments galore.

It's kinda scary isn't it Sherwin? LOL Nancy, you KNOW I keep trying to remember to pop over to the podcast board....I really need to just do it! Especially if DL will be more visible! :)

Nancy, that makes me totally happy the podcasts will have more DLR in them. I have a couple on my mp3 that do have DLR on them, it's maybe 3 or so? But that makes me really excited that it will be regular!
