I love this part of the Dis

I post all over the place.....here, Community Board, Budget, Family, Dining, and trip planning. So I try to keep up with posts that I have on different threads when I can. But I find that sometimes you can post something, pop to another board to check things out, then if time passes before you check back, some people can get nasty that you posted and ran. Some out there expect you to keep up with each post the whole time. If you post something they want to "discuss" and you haven't come right back, they start posting that you are scared to come back, or that you are "hiding" or what not. Its crazy.

I think the "other side" is just like WDW, vast and sprawling, and the gang here is like DL, quaint and intimate.........

I quit posting on the Budget Board. I am not smart in many ways and it took TWO of my posts turning cruel and nasty for me to learn my lesson. Once they got so mean I actually lost sleep over it..... But even though I am slow, eventually I DO learn and I decided to stick to the one board on the Dis that makes me feel happy.......

OMG, that is terrible. I am so sorry that happened to you. You are right, the people here are pretty great. Lots of kindness and supportive responses.
Sometimes people can be pretty "brave" behind the keyboard.
Yep Dl land on the Dis is the nice end of the pool. But we are like an Irish family, there is always room for one more!!

I haven't been to many other parts of the Dis but for a message board in general, the DL board is friendlier than most. That's why I get disappointed when someone does say something rude. DH looks at some gaming message boards and from what he's told me there are a lot of rude people making fun of others or constantly correcting minor spelling errors, calling people stupid, etc. Thanks everyone for making this a pleasant place!

Ooh, I know what you mean with this. I've contributed to some msg boards, and maybe my keyboard wouldn't type in a letter, or my fat fingers would type and extra one, and people would jump on me "learn to spell before you..." and stupid stuff like that.

Luckily I haven't come across any nasty people anywhere on the Dis, and I hope not to, I really look at this board with rose coloured glasses, I love it!

Similar thing happened to me yesterday.
You just have to remember that you had only good intentions in posting and not get caught up in the drama or negativity.

I just havent seen them post in a while.

I agree that this section is the best! The compassion board is good, too. I thought Jade posted on a couple threads a month or two ago. Also, pixie, I thought Jade's b-day was going to be during her holiday (early Dec) trip. I thought she was only planning one trip.

Hmmm, no I'm pretty sure hers was in May....or maybe it was Capn Bane's that was but I remember they were planning a May trip and I remember we talked about it because my bday is in May and we are going to DL. You may be confused with MY DD Jade tho, her bday is in December.

I'm sorry that happened to you. This isn't the first negative experience I've had from something I posted (I got majorly flamed by a LOT of southerners who were pissed that I was throwing my DD20 a baby shower, apparently family isn't supposed to throw the shower, but I did it anyway! LOL) but I won't let them stop me from posting. It's just pathetic how 1 simple thing can be so blown out of proportion to the degree that people were ignoring the OP and just aiming at me and basically telling me how I'm wrong when I know I'm not. One girl actually said "tomaaato tomaaahto" to me....Ummm whatever. LOL I haven't gone back to thread since my last post yesterday and I won't.

Thanks It's over and you're right, I can't let myself get caught up in it. It's easy to do that....much too easy.

I checked my complete list of subscribed threads in my User CP. I found an old thread where Jade had posted. I clicked on her info, and she most definitely is celebrating "Mommy's 25th Birthday" at WDW for the holidays, as her ticker/countdown clock says something like '10 months and 1 day' or some such thing. I knew I remembered that they were debating on whether or not they COULD take a couple more DLR trips, but decided to cut one out because they wanted to do WDW during the holidays this year and then retire from Disney trips for a while.

Also, somewhere next to Jade's info that I clicked on, it says, "Last activity 1-11-09." So she was somewhere on the DIS (maybe not in the DLR section) on January 11, 2009. So we know she has been here!

This is another reason why this part of the DIS is great. If we lose one of our regulars, we will actually notice that they are gone and look for them and wonder if they are okay!! I assume on other boards, if you lose someone, you lose someone and sayonara!

The community board scared me away from the DIS for a few months, actually. I would get so angry reading it that it would ruin the rest of my day--and night!

So now I'm back, forgot my old password for my old account and couldn't get a new one to work. So, a new account it is--all because of the community board!

I think they are likely planning their WDW trip. I know Jade was planning on going in May for her bday. I hope like crazy that they make it over there and I hope that the people on the WDW boards aren't picking on her spelling. I don't know about Vegas Mike...hmmmmm

I've experienced that myself! This is my third go-round using the Dis to plan a trip. My first time was using this board. Everyone here was very kind and helpful.

A year ago I started using the other boards to plan a WDW trip, expecting a similar experience. Within a week or two I was searching for other discussion boards.

What bothers me about the WDW boards is that there seem to be double standards. The "regulars" can put other people down, make snide comments about people, etc. However, if the newbies respond they get their hands slapped. In the same vein, I've seen the regulars there gang up on newbies...rather than responding to the post they attack the person doing the posting.

I am sending you a big "Amen!" to the thought that this board is a kinder place to be!

It's weird how territorial people can get --there is another website and I feel the same way. There's a group that has obviously known each other for a long time--and although some are friendly, there's a contingent that although polite, definitely make newbies feel like they aren't in the "in" group. I don't spend all that much time on that other site.

I know why this board is so great, we all have been and love the one and only Disneyland that was made with love by Walt Disney himself. When you walk thru the tunnel and see that fire station, you can feel Walt's presence! I think special pixie dust gets sprinkled to all who go to Disneyland so you can in turn, share the Disneyland joy to others.
I guess the other boards are missing the pixie dust and the special touches by Walt.
