I just got back from picking up more DVDs that we had on hold. Our library belongs to a network of other libraries and has a great website that allows you to search and put items on hold. The items that we've gotten have come from as far as IA (we're in a suburb of Chicago) and it a pretty timely manner. I can't tell you the last time we paid to rent a movie!

I'm almost embarrassed to say that it wasn't until today that I realized that you can also rent video games for Wii, Xbox, DS...for FREE! We're only allowed 2 per library card and you can only keep them for 7 days. There's a $1.00 fee for every day that it's late (compared to $0.10 for a book or DVD). I came home with 2 games for my DD. The librarian knows that we request items often and told me that if there's a game that they don't have, to check the website. We can put it on hold and they will get it from another library for us.

So, if you haven't already check with your library and see if they rent games. What a great way to try them before spending the money buying one.

Yep I love our library for the same reasons. I wil have to see if ours rents games as well. That'd be too cool!!!

:) I wonder if we go to the same library, I'm in the NW burbs (Elgin).

The Elgin library has a site that you can request books etc. and have them held for pick up. They also have a drive-through and you can request that they be waiting at the drive through window! So I can get any book (movie, game, audio) without even getting out of my car! You can return items thru the drive-up too.

It's a newer, beautiful building that should last decades. I'm so glad they built it! :goodvibes

We are in a NW Suburb as well and LOVE our library too! I am pretty sure most of the libraries in Chicago belong to some sort of network. When DH found out you can rent Wii games, he was shocked (and excited! :cool1:)

We're a bit south of you (Bolingbrook) but they may be part of the same network. Ours is PrairieCat. What's weird is that libraries as far away as Davenport, IA are part of the network, but Naperville and Plainfield that are both next to us are not. :confused3

We used to have a drive-up window as well. I LOVED it. The items on hold would be ready and waiting for us at the window. We're in the middle of building a new library so they had to change the traffic flow of cars in the parking lots so we won't have a drive-up again until the new building is done. That won't be for at least a year. But for free, I'll park and walk into the building. Heck, we pay for the service in our property taxes, we might as well use it.

belongs to a large network too.

We have to pay 50cents for a hold, but they have hundreds of wii games. Well worth the price of not buying a game the kids don't like. Almost every one we try I ask if it's a "keeper". Their usual response is that it was fun for a week, but they don't need it. :thumbsup2

We never pay for a DVD either. Our library has a "2 day" shelf with the new releases. There is always something good there. It is $1 a day late fee, so the turnover is quick.

I love my library, too!

It's so convenient to go online, reserve a book, reserve a DVD - then I just go pick it up at my local branch - one city block away! :goodvibes

We love our library too! We live in Woodridge (west suburb) and do DVD's, new release books and sometimes video and computer games. Love it!!
