I just got back from picking up more DVDs that we had on hold. Our library belongs to a network of other libraries and has a great website that allows you to search and put items on hold. The items that we've gotten have come from as far as IA (we're in a suburb of Chicago) and it a pretty timely manner. I can't tell you the last time we paid to rent a movie!
I'm almost embarrassed to say that it wasn't until today that I realized that you can also rent video games for Wii, Xbox, DS...for FREE! We're only allowed 2 per library card and you can only keep them for 7 days. There's a $1.00 fee for every day that it's late (compared to $0.10 for a book or DVD). I came home with 2 games for my DD. The librarian knows that we request items often and told me that if there's a game that they don't have, to check the website. We can put it on hold and they will get it from another library for us.
So, if you haven't already check with your library and see if they rent games. What a great way to try them before spending the money buying one.
