Two days after I had my beloved Griffin put down, I received a card from my veterinary office. It contained personal notes from all of the staff about Griffin and how much they had enjoyed him. I thought it was such a sweet thing to do. That in itself was more than I had ever received in the past when I had lost pets. Then, today, I received a letter from the Veterinary College at the University of Florida. The letter said that they wanted me to know that my vet had made a generous donation to the Veterinary College in memory of my Griffin. I was so touched. He will have my veterinary business for as long as I have pets! Now, that's the way to do business.

My long-time vet (20 years) in Indiana did the same when one of my older cats died.

We moved here with an old cat in remission from bowel cancer (we took him to Purdue University's veterinary school and went the chemo route). We have a vet just the mile up the road from our house here and she tended to Maxie until we had to let him go.

She, too, sent a very nice card, but what undid me was they included a tuft of his fur (which I still have). Poor old-man kitty.

I hope there is a new fur baby in your future, feralpeg.

When we lost our beloved Harry(english bulldog) we were crushed. We found him in our home dead. He was 14. We carried him over to the vet to have him cremated. The techs meeting us at the car were crying right along with us as we carried him in. They loved him too. I also received a card shortly thereafter from all of them. along with the rainbow bridge story. Gosh I still miss him so.

Feralpeg I am so sorry about Griffin but I am so happy to see how many lives he touched.

 I think you have to extra compassion to do that job. That is so nice they sent a card, and made a donation.

When I had my lab put down, my vet sent me a beautiful card with a picture of a lab sitting on the beach looking out at the sea. They had all signed it and added personalized messages.

Evertyime I go, they ask how we're doing. When I took my new puppy for her check-up, our vet rubbed her ears and told her she had some big shoes to fill.

Our vet does the same thing donating to the local veterinary university. It is such a great gesture.

Like you, I've suffered a recent loss of a beloved, long-time family pet. While my boy was having problems, my vet called me on a holiday weekend to check on him, he came in on his day off to care for him when he was in the hospital. He cleared his schedule the Saturday morning we said goodbye. My dog was one of his first and oldest patients. A few days after we lost him, we received a sympathy card signed by the entire office. It was beautiful and had a verse about my baby never being far away because he left paw-prints on my heart. Enclosed in the card, was a ceramic heart-shaped medallion with my dog's paw impressed on the front and his name and years on the back. I have a very, very special vet also. What makes these types of vets special is that they tend to our pet's medical needs, but understand that at times, they need to minister to the pet owners as well. We are both fortunate that our beloved pets had such wonderful care. Care, kindness, and compassion puts our special doctors above the others.

Our vet had flowers delivered to our home when our cat was put down. I love our vet too.

Sorry about Griffin. :(

When, Buddy, our first Lab had to be put down, due to cancer, the Vet's office sent a card and flowers!

I, too, was touched.

 on your loss and wishing you much happiness with your new addition.:goodvibes

How is the new dog by the way? Have you picked him up yet?

Oh, yes! Bandit is with me here now. I picked him up last Friday. We are getting to know each other. He is a very good dog. He needs to work on a few things, but I expected that. Slowly, the cats are starting to tolerate him. Now, if I could only get him to stop chasing every lizard and frog he sees, everything would be perfect!

Here are a few pictures I took of him the first night at his new home.

Oh, he looks so sweet!

Our vet did the same as yours - a sympathy card and a donation to a humane society (I believe) in memory of our dog. We were so touched. We love our vet, too!

My vet did the same thing when one of our cats was put down a few months ago. This month 4 of our cats turned 2yrs old and each one of them got a birthday card in the mail!

Oh, that's so sweet. I'd love to have that kind of relationship with my vet. I always feel like I'm being usold by mine. Buy this, try that, it never ends. I'd stick with your vet too!

Bandit has the sweetest eyes. He looks like a keeper.

We received a very nice card when we had to have our white german shepherd put to sleep. Our vet said she was the only dog that actually picked the tech that was going to take care of her when ever we boarded her.

When the vet came in to give her the injection, she said that it was as hard on her as it was on me.

Bandit does look so sweet. :thumbsup2

Wishing you years of health and happiness with Bandit. He is a handsome boy.:lovestruc Our love for our past pets allows our hearts to grow and welcome a new love in our lives. I know he will have a great life with you.

What an awesome gesture. He's so cute, too.

He likes his bone, I see. ;)
