We already had a National/Emerald Club reservation for December, but today I decided to go on National to play around with the codes and coupons.

We had a 5-day reservation using the Emerald Club code & with two One/Two/Free coupons we'd earned on our account for $338 total (including all those pesky taxes, facility charges, tire/battery fees and so on). Just playing around, I was using one of the Car & Driver codes from Mousesavers and 2 free days we had sitting in our account from another promotion (just to see what the National system was calculating as a daily rate for this possible reservation) and.... wow, I was shocked at how much better the price was.

So I cancelled the first reservation and made a new one. Using the Car & Driver Rate Code and re-using the now-available 2 One/Two/Free coupons from the first (cancelled) reservation I was able to drop our rate $100 to $242 *total*...for 5 days during the holidays!

Not bad :teeth:.

Thanks for the head's up! That code is pretty good even over Christmas.

I used that code as well and got a fantastic savings for over the holidays. You don't have to show proof of anything do you?

I understand that it is for readers of Car & Driver magazine...doesn't everyone read Car & Driver? All the rates that one has to have a membership for are listed on Mousesavers as being "membership only" like the various airlines' Frequent flyer clubs, etc. No-one has reported an issue with this code, so I am assuming it's alright. Sometimes putting in no code is the best, sometimes Emerald Club's code is the cheapest...it all just depends.

You could always e-mail Mousesavers and ask is anyone has reported problems with any code you want to use or Google around the Internet on travelers' websites a bit to see if there are any reported issues with specific National Car rental codes.
