You know, I was just thinking about something. I wish I could tell people who save and know that they will only be at WDW once in a life time not to go. Not because I want to deprive them of the most wonderful place on Earth, but to save them the heart-ache of not being able to go back. I am already so excited about our trip a year from now, I can't imagine knowing I would never be able to go again. It's like it just gets in your blood. I see us going many more times 'til we're old and gray!

I've been reading the ever-exhausting debates about whether or not you should take your child out of school, and whether or not teachers should take time off to go...all I can say is I don't care what you say...I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!! :cool1: :woohoo:

I think there are many many people on this board with many many trips to Disney under their belts who started out with a "once in a lifetime" trip to Disney! :thumbsup2 You're right, it gets in your blood!

I have a good friend who occasionally talks about taking her kids for a "once in a lifetime" Disney trip. I know this isn't what the OP meant, but in her case I hope she doesn't do it because she'll either go at spring break (Easter) or summer, won't do any planning or want any advice, will enter the parks at 11am and stay through the busiest times of the day, etc. Her husband will ONLY care about all the $$$ slipping through their fingers and they will have a miserable time wasting thousands of dollars. In their case, they should stick to an annual weekend trip to Six Flags. I always imagine her blaming ME (the Disney lover) for their wasted time and money!

I totally understand what you mean OP. We went thinking in April 08 this was a once in a lifetime trip. We even told the kids that at the time of the trip. But we had so much fun and loved it SO much that we are planning to go back in Aug/Sept this year! We stay offsite so that helps our costs and we are considering driving down this time to save on the airfare. This way we don't have to scrimp to much on the actual trip to Disney. I can't imagine never going back. It does get in your blood. this was the only family vacation that we've taken where we've felt this way. We did a week in DC for Father's Day one year and the kids really enjoyed that. They keep asking to go back there too. But nothing like what we experienced with WDW!

We went for our once trip in Dec 2005. We stayed for the a week, did everything under the sun because we knew we wouldn't be back for a long time. We had such a great time that December. We had a Christmas party with his Dad and each were gifted $100. Dh and I were driving back home that night and started talking about what it would cost to go back to Florida. The next day I put the $200 down for the deposit on our December 2006 trip.

Its been down hill since then. Nothing compares cost vs experience for vacations. 2 nights at Greatwolf lodge last spring break was $600+, it was fun but for that I could have had a week in a value resort where it was warm! Its an illness! I am trying to figure out how mad Dh might be if I planned a surprise anniversary trip there in May without DD. For the $$$ nothing else is peaking my interest with these Aps burning in my pocket!

You said you stay offsite, I don't know if you ever have stayed on Disney property, but if you do you will be HOOKED!!!!! We stayed at Pop Century January 2008 and I told the kids this would be the only time we would ever stay on property (I just wanted to try it) and well lets just say :yay: :yay: :yay: this is me waiting to go back to Pop next year. I am not sure I will ever do Disney again off property.

No necessarily. We stayed on property once. We stayed at OKW. It was very nice, BUT, we are hooked on staying in a nice 2 bedroom condo for much, much less.

We have a family of 5 and cannot stay at Pop. We are very limited in where we can stay with 5 and having the room to move around, a washer/dryer in the unit, more than one TV, etc....is the ONLY way for us.

Dawn

PS: BUT, we are getting Premium APs this year and I have told the kids this is the ONLY time we will do that! Let's see how that goes!

And I hate when people say "YOU ARE GOING AGAIN???" Unless you have been you just dont get it! My mo said that to me last night when I told her we were going back in June (we are also going in Feb). Well she hasnt been in 20 years. They didnt even have HS or AK the last time she went! LOL! She is coming with us in Feb so hopefully she will "get it". Until then I will just have to keep saying "yes that is what we like to do........."

I completely understand! Unfortunately, we fell in love with it and now aren't able to go as much! We've been 5 times in the last 9 years- a lot for us - and still long to go. However, dh's company closed down almost three years ago and he had to take a job making less than 1/2 what he was making. So, vacations to wdw quickly halted! Yes, we'll go back one day, just not nearly as soon as we'd like to. Bad part is, my kids were totally hooked too. I keep telling them how blessed they were to go as much as they did while they were little, but they aren't buying that. DD9 still asks all the time when we're going back. We just tell her when she is grown and takes us- ha! (yes, we're kidding her) But deep down, we know it will be a long while- possibly several years due to dh's vacation days (and pay!)
It is very addicting and we are in detox!!!:goodvibes

Our first trip was supposed to be a "once in a lifetime trip". That was 5 trips ago and now we are DVC members. I love seeing Disney through the eyes of my children and the memories we have are priceless.

I could say the same thing about just about everywhere I've ever traveled! :goodvibes We went to New York City last summer and I can hardly wait to go back. Canada, Hawaii, London, San Francisco, and a cruise are on that list too, right along with WDW. I also have a lot of places I'm "dying" to go that I've never been.

Personally, I'd much rather have a lot of "once in a lifetime" trips and yearn to go back than never go anywhere. No heartache here!
