How long have you owned your points?
First contract purchased in 1992 - 230 points (the minimum at that time) at Disney Vacation Club which of course was eventually renamed Old Key West. Free park tickets didn’t hurt either. Then we purchased an additional 300 points at BLT when it opened. When the marketing materials arrived at our home for BLT (“your palace at the castle”
), it was pretty much a done deal. We wanted to purchase a small contract at VWL (BRV) when it opened, but financially the time wasn’t optimal.
Do you feel like you have gotten your moneys' worth out of it?
Yes. Many years of wonderful vacations with family and friends. Celebrating life’s milestones. Introducing the magic of Disney to our grandchildren and seeing it all through their eyes. And wondering ……where the heck has the time gone?!
What is the biggest point splurge you have exercised on a trip?
GVs on two trips and two-bedroom units more times than I can remember. We’ve done split stays here and there and always try to check out a new DVC resort when it opens. Our “normal” usage for just the two of us is a one-bedroom; I find it tough to stay in a studio now (yes, I will readily admit DVC has spoiled me), although I do like the studios at RR a lot.
Is there a point you expect to sell all or some of your points?
No, we won’t be selling our points and have never really - thank heavens - faced a situation where that was necessary. We would have liked more points at various times, but - especially as retirement neared - we felt it prudent to keep the status quo. I didn’t want to take on additional MFs. We are wondering what will happen in 2042 when our OKW contract ends. We’ll be in our 80’s but hopefully still traveling.
Have you ever rented your points?
No. We have always found a way to use our points. We’ve gifted some of them a few times to family members. Even the few intrepid souls who have asked, “Don’t you tire of going to WDW every year?”
(Answer: “No, and DVC is one of the reasons why.”)
