I love credit cards so much!

DL ticket price increase is making me slightly worried about the current ticket deal through May...I bought my ticket already through the deal-wish I would have just added maxpass at that time at the $10 price, trying to get the others to commit so I can buy their tickets before they potentially pull the deal. Hopefully, I'm worried about nothing, but this acute increase has got my attention. Really hoping that the crowds really will be manageable and that most of the night time shows will be back up, trip is planned for the 2nd week of May.

Well DH just got the dreaded Amex popup. Sigh. I tired to refer him off my Pink Gold. We are putting in a basement bar area and have some spend coming. It's his turn to get a card so it's back to the drawing board.

I have a long list of options but a lot of them are Amex so that is out right now for speed. We're locked out of Chase.

I'm at my limit with Barclays but DH is not except he put no spend on his Aviator. I didn't want to deal with a bigger minimum spend right now. I'm trying to keep our budget tight for saving purposes.

Considering:

Cap1 Savor One $150 back off $500 spend, no AF
Cap1 Quicksilver $150 back off $500 spend, no AF

Wait until next week for the new Citi card that is coming.

My top choices WERE the new pink gold, then either the Amex Cash magnet or refer from my no fee Hilton to get us another 100k points in DH's name.

So what would you do? Right now I'm leaning toward getting nothing new as much as that pains me.

I haven't looked at anything so no advice, but I did notice that Bank of America was offering a $200 with $500 spend cash deal, when I was in my account this morning. Its up from $150, no AF.

Parts of our old fence fell on two sides of the yard. Thankfully all the new fence stayed standing. A couple sections of the neighbors new fence fell. These are all wood fences which are no match for wind. Couple sections broke off at the bottom and a couple sections came put of the wet ground. One section flew into the yard, not even sure what the wind did then and I don't want to know.

Yikes! Have you called your insurance company? I know it's Sunday but some of them will process a claim call and get you in the long line that happens when there are a lot of sudden claims due to storms. Did you lose any shingles on your roof?

Ugh, I think I totally messed up the Chase banking and I am hoping I can save it. It looks like my coupon code didn’t attach to my new accounts so I am set them a SM with the coupon code to see if there is any way to attach it so I can get the $400 bonus. Where can I check to see what is triggering the DD I keep for the checking account?

So, pretty sure I want the Amex BCP, mainly for buying Disney giftcards at Kroger for the fuel points. I recall reading something about you shouldn't purchase gift cards with Amex to meet MSR? Or something? Does that apply to me?

When should I apply? I'm currently:
8/20 CIP
11/28 SW Pers

I'll apply for the SW Biz in the next few weeks as I'm trying to get the CP. Should I apply for the BCP on the same day?

Does anyone know about using a spouses CC on your plastiq account? I need to get to meeting MSR on DH's SW card and my plastiq has all the accounts saved in it already.

AmEx takes 2 cycles to report to your CR so you could apply today for BCP and apply later in the month for SW Biz without any problems.

I referred my DH for some fee free dollars and set up a Plastiq account for him.

When's the last day to get the rose gold card? I thought that specific color would go away at some point this month.

Had a lovely chat with my parents this morning. We went to the Iowa state vs Kansas game last night which was AMAZING!!! They’ve really started getting interested in a new cc because their’s currently gives 0 benefits to them. We talked about a chase freedom or discover and I think they’re gonna go with the discover. It makes me happy to pass the cc journey on to someone else and even better that it’s my parents.

Yes! It's towards incidentals. I used it mostly for EBCI on SW.

Well shoot already bought our EBCI for our May flights. I don’t really see us using that $100 much honestly

OMG it was so scary windy last night! We had one of those little plastic kiddie pools in the backyard under the deck that managed to get out and fly into the front yard. The bedroom area of our house is surrounded by 100 year old maple trees that drop big limbs and creak when it gets windy and I just lay there waiting to hear something drop onto the roof above me. Oddly enough nothing major happened. The windstorm that was maybe two years ago we had one fall in the backyard, smashing the fence on the way down. Needless to say I am glad it is over!
We live in a canyon and usually have very little wind down here. Not last night, it was wailing! So far the only damage sustained was during a power surge. My brand new notebook took a hit and I can't get it to turn on. We have 20 acres and lots of trees so the potential for more issues is there. I haven't walked the property yet so time will tell if we have firewood for next year.

Wouldn’t it be better to use the voucher and then use the points to redeem for a giftcard or something.

This is what I would do. But I don't fly WN so I'm no expert here. But I also go voucher -- gift cards -- points -- cash from my wallet.
Thanks guys for the feedback - this makes sense!
  • I can save ~7,300 SW RRs and then earn ~600 points for paying cash (per flight)
  • I end up with ~7,900 SW RRs in my account this way
  • It costs me ~$30 out of pocket and I can use up the ~$80 travel credit (which I probably can only use $20 of if I don't actually book a cash flight)
  • I could redeem the ~7,900 SW RRs for ~$79 worth of gift cards at 1cpp
Whether I actually chose to cash the points out for a gift card is another story...BUT...in theory it makes much more sense to use that additional $60 of flight credit vs. letting it go to waste! And THIS is why I come to my friendly group of experts when I'm overthinking something :)

I did something similar with my flights last September....had mine booked with points and DH as my companion.

Our flight in March was delayed due to mechanical issues so we each received a $100 voucher good for 1 year...there was no way to convert the voucher to points so SW refunded my points and applied the vouchers at the equivalent cash rate.... I still have about $10 left on the luv voucher...pm if you decide to switch and can use the $10
That is INCREDIBLY generous of you! You guys rock :)

Chase Ultimate Rewards Question:

We can book our 3 night Universal trip for next week using points for 25,000 points per night, or $312 per night. We currently have over 100,000 points. I currently have an AP rare reserved which averages to $240 per night, or $812 total with tax, but I will have to upgrade one of our 3 day tickets to an annual pass, and I’m not sure exactly what the cost is for that. My question is, which is the better deal? Should we use points or pay the AP rate plus the cost to upgrade 1 ticket? It’s obviously not better to pay cash at the Chase UR rate. We are considering using our points for another trip later on (either for hotel or airfare), but I wasn’t sure if our rewards points ever expire? TIA

I had this dilemma 2 years ago when we went. I decided to just pay the AP rate. I thought about cashing out URs to cover the cost, but decided not to in the end. It depends on what AP pass you are buying. When I did it was $10 more for the seasonal APs than the 3 day pass. Had planned on just buying one, but at that price I upgraded all of us and we got another trip out of them.

I usually do $500 even and pay the $1 fee cash. Right now with chase freedom you can get the visa gcs at 5% Walgreens or CVS ($25-6 fee-1 MO fee) so you make $18 on it. Good for some MS or to get extra points. Otherwise you could do PGR for 4x back and get it at a grocery store. I’ve only tried MO at s+s, my Walmart lines are way too long. @speedyfishy and @MrPTato are way more experts than me. Do you have a giant eagle? I think they are same company as S+S
no giant eagle
