No you still get the 5% off when buying Disney gift cards with Target Redcard/debit card, I have not done this recently but saw an add on my redcard account as recently as last week.

ETA: buying gift cards with target gift cards is dead

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

With the calendar turning to 2019 might be a great time to check all your support links that you have out there. Make sure they are active/working, update them if necessary, remove any that no longer are available. Also, if you had removed links because you reached the max limit last year, you'll want to add those back in!

We just went through a similar conversation . . . we had to take our new kitten to the emergency vet on Christmas Day, and he spent 5 days there. Plus he will need surgery (yes, we got a lemon - lol). We need a new card!!

Oh no, poor kitten (and poor you). I hope will be okay. My cat (7 years old) had surgery in November and even though it was actually pretty minor, I was still unprepared for seeing her suffer.

Drumroll please....

My total free travel from March 2018 (when I started tracking)-March 2019 (still need to book a couple rentals cars and such) is....

$28,206.11!:teacher:

It began with our SoCal spring break trip, Soccer tourney weekend, Charleston in June, WDW girls weekend, Knoxville mothers brunch weekend, thanksgiving in charleston, disney cruise, charleston trip tomorrow for mom's 60th, boys weekend at NHL winter classic (there now), upcoming DD19's DCP move in trip, and upcoming Breckenridge for spring break.

Thanks to everyone. I couldn't do all this without this hobby and couldn't do this hobby without ya'll!
Happy New Year!pixiedust:

ETA: updated total...forgot the $1500 towards onboard spending on cruise that was from bank bonuses
That is so awesome! Congrats on a great year. Our redemption haul/savings this year was $13,528.65 for our 4 major trips (WDW, Captiva, Myrtle, SeaWorld). :)

Pretty sure it does still work. I'm curious why you would do this, though -- as long as you have a Chase card that is 5x UR at office supply stores and a CSR (or CSP), I'm thinking that's the best "basic" deal on gift cards.

Thank you! He is doing ok now it seems, but he'll need hernia surgery eventually. We're trying to wait until he grows more though (if we can). Its so hard sometimes to figure out whats going on with cats - especially when they have more than one issue. Would be so much better if they could talk!

Where is the post with all the referral links? I’m finally getting ready to apply for a CSP and would love to help a diser out with the referral.

So true. Our two cats are the first cats either DH or I have ever had and it's really hard to tell what's going on with them. One cat needed two teeth extracted because of some reabsorption syndrome that is fairly common in cats but I had absolutely no idea about it. And the cat showed no signs of any problem.

Another reminder
A fresh year is a great time to start tracking many things. :teacher:..here's some ideas for different sheets you may want to setup in a spreadsheet(s):
  • A loyalty account balance tracker - Fields may include: Program Name, Person (i.e. me, wife, children), Points balance, Last Activity, Expiration Date (if applicable), As of Date (last time I verified the balance), Approx. Value (based on my personal valuation), Notes & Membership ID. Having this setup and updated on occasion will help you verify you're getting all the points you expected AND no fraud has occurred
  • Credit Card Bonus tracker - Fields may include: Card Name, Last 4 of Acct#, Person (i.e. me, wife), Date Applied, Date Cancelled (if applicable), Annual Fee (if applicable), Annual Bonus (i.e. travel credit, free night), Signup Bonus, Min. Spend, Date Bonus Received, Bonus Value, % Return on MSR, Notes
  • Bank Account Bonus tracker - Similar to CC tracker: Bank Name, Last 4 of Acct#, Date Approved, Date Cancelled (if applicable), Monthly Fee (if applicable), Fee Waiver Requirements, Date Bonus Received, Bonus Value, Notes (including when I can cancel the acct without penalty)
  • Referral tracker - Card Name, Last 4 of Acct#, Person (i.e. me, wife), YTD referral total (in pts/$/etc.), Max pts/$ Available, Notes (including who used my referral if known so I might repay them in the future)
  • Redemption tracker - I set mine up as follows (there are a lot of ways you could do this):
    • GROSS COSTS (each as its own field):
      Flight,
      Hotel, Dining, Tickets, Other (SUBTOTAL)
    • LESS SAVINGS (each as its own field): Flight Points, Hotel Points, Other CC Savings, Misc Discounts, Other Savings (SUBTOTAL)
    • GRAND TOTAL EXPENSED (typically $0 for us as I offset all travel expenses with some sort of savings)
  • And not necessarily churning related but of course you could begin tracking all of your expenses if you aren't already doing so. I may or may not have 2+ other sheets showing various expense tracking, personal balance sheet, annual ledgers, projected retirement savings, etc...I also may be crazy :) I know some people like using YNAB or something like that, but I'm a big "personal spreadsheet" guy on this stuff :)

I skimmed through every comment here quickly to catch up today - sorry I haven't been as active.

Sorry @Judique for the troubles you're going through.
@disneymagicgirl - sorry your cruise had a hiccup. The pictures were awesome though!
@MrPTato - sorry for your loss, always sad to see my DISchurner friends hurting!
@Lain - hope you had an awesome trip!
@calypso726 - Great pictures - hope you're having an AWESOME time!

I'm sure I missed other stuff too...I should be back now that work kicks back in tomorrow :)

I wanted to clarify some things with the Shop Rite 10x Chase Pay deal.

1) It says it caps at $400 in bonuses. Does that mean I can spend $400 or I can spend $40?

2) does this cap count for one card or all? Meaning, if I max it out on my chase freedom can I then do it again on my CSP, etc?

We just got back from a long weekend in NYC funded by churning! We used SW points for the flight and Marriott points for 3 nights at a hotel near the 9/11 memorial. We flew home yesterday to miss the NYE craziness!!

I need a little help with my SW companion pass strategy. I need the pass by May so I have a bit of time.

1. I have my SW business card in hand, I'll put my DVC dues on that today which will take care of most of the minimum spend.
2. I stupidly applied for the SW premier card on my flight not even thinking about that I already have it and hadn't cancelled it. I'm assuming (Hoping) to be denied.
3. My AF for the premier comes due today. If I pay the fee and keep the card for a month will the yearly bonus points count toward the points needed to earn the CP?
4. Should I wait 30 days to apply for the Plus card? How long after I cancel my premier card?

Thanks in advance! I'm super annoyed at myself for messing this up!

You can check on the Premier application by calling Chase 1-800-432-3117 ...if it says 7-10 days it’s probably a deniel.
Did the AF post today or is today the due date....if it posted on your account today...the bonus points will probably show up in your RR account and count towards your CP a few days after your January statement closes
From what I’ve read the recommendation is to wait 30 days to apply

Is this promotion still active? I took advantage of it in November (?)---I received 10X UR on $400 in purchases at ShopRite. It was actually hard for me to do lol so I finished it up with ShopRite gift cards!

Alright, turning the experts here. I'm usually good with legalese, but I'm not wrapping my brain around this one from Marriott. I'm either overthinking it or it's just not as clear as they thought.

We made Platinum just a few weeks ago and won't be making it again anytime soon. I was thinking to use the 5 elite night credit from the Platinum Annual Credit Benefit to help keep Gold status for next year. We only need 10 nights on top of the CC so we may make it anyway, but this would guarantee it. Except I'm getting confused on the last bit of the T&C for the benefit:

Elite Nights that are awarded to an eligible Platinum Elite or Platinum Premier Elite Member as the Member's Annual Choice Benefit will be awarded in the Eligible Status Year for which the Elite Nights were earned, regardless of when the Member selects the Five Elite Night Credits as his/her Annual Choice Benefit. For the avoidance of doubt, the Eligible Calendar Year in which the Annual Choice Benefit is earned is the Eligible Calendar Year for which the Elite Nights will be credited toward earning Elite membership status.
Since we earned the 50 nights to make Platinum in 2018, does that last bit mean that they'd retroactively award the nights onto 2018?? That's how I'm reading it right now so that would mean we couldn't pick another benefit until another 50 nights are earned.

I wasn't in a rush to select anything as I thought it'd all apply to the calendar year you used it in. So since I had earned Platinum for next year (well, this year now, 2019) I could pick my benefit then and have it apply to that year. But it kinda sounds like that's not going to work. Anyone have any thoughts?

Beautiful pictures! Love the baby penguins. Happy New Year and Happy Birthday! I hope I can celebrate my 50th more like you than how my sister celebrated her 50th a couple weeks ago. She kept sending us pics of this cool "playground for adults" her daughter and her went to as a birthday gift. Climbing walls, zip lines and lots of fun things. Until the warp wall. Womp womp. Two weeks with an external fixator and finally just able to have surgery. No work or driving for 3 months!!

Definitely a birthday she will remember. Those 50s are special.
