I love credit cards so much!

Amex loves all the MS you’re doing on its cards. ::yes:: The 4x supermarkets category is going to be very useful.

Congratulations! I’m assuming self referral from BGR for the extra 20k?

Think I can MS 25k at a grocery store this month? lol I referred from the Blue Biz. I didn’t have a BGR referral link.

Following along :) Taxes should all be included, but I think the resort fees are separate. I haven't stayed with a resort fee yet so I'm not sure what happens in practice, but the one I have booked right now is showing only that fee as payable and the rest of the stay is 0.
That would be great. Taxes are 84 and resort fees 15. $15 for a $500 night room. Nice.... Trying to make the most of my one and only unlimited certificate.

You should be in the clear from here on out, until maybe 12/20.

The big issue is timing the closing date of your first statement. The AF posts at the close of the first (and 13th/first Year 2) statement. You want it to close sometime in December, preferably at least a week into December, or later. So your first year and second year AFs post in December, giving you 30 days -- into January (2020) -- to close your card and still get a full refund of the AF.

The shortest I've seen the first statement close is 13 days from approval. It's more typical for the first statement to close 20-something days from approval. That should put you in early to mid-December if you applied today.

You also want your card in hand before the end of the year to use your 2018 airline credit.

Since you're going for the Gold card, keep in mind that Amex has been having supply issues with the new metal cards, particularly the Rose Gold cards. Consequently, a lot of people have been reporting that it's taking 10 days, 2 weeks, etc. to get their cards. I've seen DPs that Amex is extending the MSR period for these folks, but that extension won't do you any good if you need to have the Gold card in hand in December to use the airline fee credit for a SW GC. With the holidays and all the mail and packages in transit, I'd give extra time for delivery too, and wouldn't wait too long into December to apply.
I have my wife all set to call in for the AmEx Business platinum today, and all of the numbers (thanks @Lain!) are going straight to voice mail. I will try again this afternoon, but I think they may be out for Thanksgiving.

Is the chip and pin a real advantage? It might take few seconds longer but I never had any issues with just signing -- I know I used several cards that have a chip but no pin over the last few years in the Uk and Northern Europe.

You'd need the PIN for some automated/unattended places, everywhere else just Chip is usually ok. Some places like train ticket kiosks require the PIN. For the most part it's not a big deal, and I think some countries it's more of a problem than others, but it would suck to be stranded someplace without an attendant. Depending on where you're going it's not usually something to rush out and get, but if you have it already and it doesn't cost anything to keep it, can't hurt.

Oh really? I have seen that option, but there has always been a refundable option too. Well if not, compare booking through hilton with money and taking a statment credit for it. May still come out ahead of the cost of a preferred room reward.

ETA: Maybe that 70k barclays would be a good option since it is a travel charge eraser. I have no idea what the cash price of your room is, so just tossing out ideas.
Last time I checked that room category wasn’t refundable but I can check again. Right now the room is showing $237 ish per night so $1,422 for 6 nights without taxes and fees.

Okay I did some more research. Chase won’t work because it costs $40 more per night to get it refundable. So through Hilton, points for the room would be 510k and the total dollar amount paying with cash would be $1,400 plus tax. If I did my math right, the 510k Hilton points would be equivalent to $2,800. I’m not sure if that’s right but if so that’s a huge difference.

What’s the Barclay?
