I love credit cards so much!

Read the notes on that chart on that comment...it’s all about the 24 month waiting period for SPG cards thereafter.

That’s really a personal decision for somebody - can’t really advise on that. It’s not necessarily a terrible plan BUT most people here are looking to generate points that can help them in the very near future. Marriott isn’t necessarily the right answer for somebody looking for flights to Europe Or an on-site trip to Universal Studios Orlando.
Makes sense...Yes, I did read that comment regarding having to wait 24 mos. Just don't want to screw anything up when I'm just starting out.
If I have the CIC, Disney, CFU, and Bank Card, what do you recommend next? I'm at 4/24(3/24 b/c of the CIC). We are like you said above, looking to use points for domestic travel in the near future.
I'm intrigued on AMEX SPG Biz, which expires tonight for the 4 X dining.

The weather has been awful here today. I didn't get a single trick or treater. Zero. So I guess I'll take my giant bag of Sam's candy to work tomorrow.

It's a new month in a few hours. Here's hoping the RMN deals are awesome - 22 days until Black Friday.

And apparently Kohl's is starting its Black Friday sale... tonight. Seriously.

maybe look at other Chase business cards if you want to stay under 5/24....do you have a CIP.....bonus is 80,000URs ...is there a certain airline you fly that has a business card

Argh, one of my MCGCs from Safeway isn't working. Could it have not activated even if the reciept says approved?

No CIP yet. We basically just try for the cheapest airfare, not loyal to any of them at this point.
Can you use the URs...the CIP has a $95 annual fee for the 80,000 bonus...3URs for Internet, phone, travel.....as of now my plan is to cancel mine after the first year since I’m transferring points to the CSR and booking hotels ., flights etc that way...for me the bonus was worth the $95 fee...but it depends what your travel plans are

Yes, I'd probably do the same thing you did, transfer the points to my CSP and cancel. Domestic travel is on the horizon for us, not too much.

It's been a few years since we rented a car. Any tips? We are Costco members and I read here that people like to go through them so we are checking there first. I'm working on this in between doorbell rings tonight.

Yep that’s why I like the flexibility of the URs..and I’ve been concentrating on Chase..URs between myself and DH..using referrals....so I can use them for different hotels or airlines...

We are doing that with both Chase and AMEX. I love the flexibility of having points that I can use for multiple airlines and different hotel chains. It's so much easier for me to use my MRs for flights than my AAdvantage points (which is kind of annoying since I think I want to use those up first).

So I am trying to help some friends that want to join us at Disney in March. They live in Alaska and flights are really high.

They have great credit and no issues meeting minimum spend (high Cost of living in Alaska) so I was trying to figure some travel hacking for them with CC bonuses. After looking at miles needed to fly from ANC to MCO (holy crud, you could fly business class to Europe) I decided the easiest thing would be for both of them to get the Barclay Arrival + to help offset their airfare.

Luckily he is a disabled vet so he qualifies for Military Salute tickets and we already have a 5 bedroom pool home rented so they have no lodging costs, but airfare from Alaska for five is quite a chunk of money!

They might want to look into the Alaska Air card issued by BOA. The card comes with one companion pass each year when you buy one ticket and then just pay the taxes and fees on the other which is about$121. Card holders are allowed a free checked bag and so are up to 6 of their guests. When using the companion ticket both passengers earn miles. The current offer is spend $1000 in 3 months and get 30k miles.

Thanks for this.

They actually already have the companion pass and the Alaska Airlines CC, but Alaska Airlines is significantly more expensive than Delta, even considering one of them would fly for free. And their flights were really bad...like taking off at 1230 am with 2 stops bad. I was pretty surprised. Flying from Alaska is to MCO is a whole different beast from what I am used to!

I like Costco, the second driver is free. But you should keep checking even after you book cause the rates could drop.

SW flies out of our local airport 10 minutes away...so I collect RR points and the CP.....I’m definitely going to ask you about Amex probably the middle of next year when I’m ready to venture into MRs

ooohhh, that room would work for us. I will need to look into it. I don't remember seeing any with a sleeper sofa when I checked.
I called universal and with talking to the rep told her with us being 2 adults and 3 kids she recommended the deluxe 2 queens room at hard rock since it has a sofa pull out. And the size of the room is 500 sq ft. Comparing prices to all their other rooms this was the cheapest. The roll away in the other rooms you pay a $25 per night plus tax fee. I was only looking at the three hotels with the ep so some of their others might have the same set up but I don’t know. This will be our first time going. If you use UR pts to pay and you are staying 7 nights call so you can get the stay more rate. The website didn’t pull up the stay more but they can do it.

Royal pacific was $43 cheaper a night but it’s 350 sq ft I think and you have to add a roll away. So for a week to us it’s worth paying the extra $43 to have some space and an actual guaranteed bed. The rep said you will have to pay the fee for the roll away. Also that they cant guarantee they will have one available. So I guess depending on when you are going.

I look at the Costco travel site but also check the individual cars rental sites as well looking for the lowest price...so far this year Costco has had the lowest prices...but I check back daily since then do go down...

Yes, I usually reserve with Alamo using some codes from mousesavers, but don't do the pay upfront option. Then I check others daily and keep canceling, reserving until I get the best offer.
