I love credit cards so much!

Just a couple of DPs on this Halloween Wednesday:

--On Monday morning I called the Chase automated line, found out I was approved for the CIP and called in to have it expedited. It was on my doorstep Tuesday afternoon. Super quick and perfect timing for me to pay a few bills that could be paid via credit card (let the MSR commence!) and to take on my trip to WDW for Wine & Dine Half Marathon weekend. I'm planning to pay whatever I can at WDW via Disney gcs, but the CIP will get used anywhere I can't use a Disney gc.

--Did the Starbucks Chase Pay reload again this morning with my CF and see the 150 bonus stars in my account (on top of the 125 earned yesterday). One more reload to go....

--Won 500 points in the SPG game this morning. That makes one 1,000, one 500, a bunch of 50s and a couple of zeroes for me....

Is it normal for AMEX not to be accepted in a lot of places? There were 2-3 places we couldn’t use our card on our trip. We also apparently can’t pay dh’s doctor bills with it. Kind of a bummer because we are trying to meet my MSR.

I know some places by us don’t take it...back when I was Treasure of our local, hockey organization we didn’t because, the fees were high then Visa or Mastercard

Once over 5/24 I don’t see myself getting under. Chase has been changed the rules a lot lately so I don’t think it’s worth waiting around for them. I want to hop on the GrAAvy train lol I’m thinking the chase co branded cards are easier to get too. So maybe I’ll try for that next month and then finally get over 5/24. I use the same income for SO and I on chase applications and we have similar credit scores idk how SO now has three chase Biz cards and I can’t get number 2.

I would agree the co-branded cards are easier to get. DH was declined for CF last spring but since then has gotten SW business, SW personal, Hyatt and now Marriott.

Delta expert... If I book tickets using Skypesos, can those tickets be modified?
I'm trying to book return tickets for our Aug. 2019 Disney trip (4 people). I usually don't book flights this soon, but our return flight has to be an AM flight. These are my options:
AA 12.5K (50K total) - Have 120K AA miles.
Delta 10K (40K total)- don't have skypesos but have 130K MRs.
SW - flights won't be out until something in January? We have 55K SW
Also 90K URs
Should I wait until SW window opens?

Delta will charge a change fee unless you are a Sky Medallion Plat/Diamond. Remember there is a slight charge to transfer MRs to US based airlines (0.0006/mile so 40,000 MRs to 40,000 Skymiles will be an additional $24 plus the $5.60 booking fee/per ticket.

If you know that SW usually has am flights which will work for you I might wait for them to open up.

Question for the overseas travelers: I have a coworker who wants to visit Hungary (family of 4)and wanted to know what card can offset that. Since I basically only travel to Florida and Hawaii I have no clue. Initially I thought recommending her to SPG/Marriott for flexibility of points but then I thought maybe just a CSR to offset the cost and not worry about award availability.

We're flying to Budapest in June for DD's grad trip. P2 and I each signed up for Citi and Barclaycard AA cards, plus a lot of shopping portal use. That said, if a cash back card would work better, perhaps Barclay Arrival Plus or CSP/CSR for statement credit would also work. PHL-BUD for 3 had a number of AA sAAver seats in economy, not any in business, fyi.

Thank you! He flies out of DFW. I think that is a hub for AA. I'm guessing they'd be flying coach mostly but I'll have to ask him about that. Their kids are spread really far apart in age so one is a junior in college and the other in middle school which means many times they are traveling as a fam of 3.

Then I'm thinking co-branded AA cards since DFW is definitely a hub so direct flights would be awesome! Also, if they liked this game and went the Amex/MR/BA Avios route BA also flies from there.

Getting everything in order for our trip home to see a baby this weekend :hyper:

  • Flights:
    • United for 10k pts each plus fees transferred from URs (cash price $322ea)
    • SW for 7400 URs plus CP (cash price $100ish ea)
  • Hotels:
    • Fri: Fairfield Inn for $110 (use towards SPG Lux MSR and Platinum status)
    • Sat: My tried and true not-too-sketchy Quality Inn by the prison for $75 through Hotels.com, I'll get back $27 in rewards
  • Car:
    • $56 using an Alamo certificate I had (Mainly because I don't want to bother someone with a new baby to take us to OMA for a flight)
    • But I have to man up and call the FI because I need to schedule their airport shuttle. All of the rental car desks close 23 minutes before our flight lands...
Looking at transportation costs... $22.40 in flight fees + $56 rental car + gas < $160+ in gas for driving. And instead of leaving after work (3:30pmish) and getting in after midnight after driving and losing an hour to the time change, and making sure to leave by noon on Sunday so we make it home before too late... we'll head to the airport around 5pm, eat at Timberline, be at the hotel by 11pm. And not have to head up to OMA for the flight home until 6pm, and land at 9pm.

Have not been on in a while, so I am sorry if this has been answered already. I was targeted for the AA Aviator Business 60,000 offer and applied online. Response said that I would be contacted via phone or mail in 10 days. Any DPs for my prospects of getting approved? Have not opened a new Barclays account in over a year, though I did PC from the Arrival Plus to Arrival no annual fee card in May. Credit score averages about 828. Sole Proprietorship. TIA!

:offtopic: We have a reservation for the first week of April at POP via a Disney Visa deal. Today, I was able to use an AP deal to get Arts of Animation, where we've never stayed, for $50 more total. Thoughts on whether this is worth the extra cash?

Personally, I would stay in a renovated room at POP over a Little Mermaid room at AoA. I really like both resorts, and they're right across the lake from each other. BUT, if I had the option to stay in a resort I've never been before, I'd take that. :-) Not sure that helps at all!!

I'm jealous of all the Marriott points people are getting. When we try it's 50 pts every single time.

Citibank sent me a mailer today. I have been "invited" (just LOL at the word choice) to upgrade my AA Plat to an Executive level card for the low low price of $450. They aren't even offering me extra miles for doing this. LOL

DoC has a post out today that reiterates what's being prescribed on r/churning for the dreaded Amex no welcome bonus pop up: Putting Spend on your American Express Cards can Make you Eligible for Signup Bonuses Again.

Lots of anecdotes in the comments (beware, the comments took a turn for the nasty really fast). This is a story I can get onboard. It's not spoiling a trick, hack, or loophole to put spend on cards that Amex wants you spending on so they can collect interchange fees to offset the cost of offering you bonuses.

If by help, you mean muddying the waters...then yes. :) I'm thinking we'll need the queen beds of POP. My original thinking was what you said..first time at AoA, bingo. I'm just afraid we'd regret it b/c of the beds.

I’m right there with you either 50 or 0 points..

Haha, glad to help!! After seeing the ages of the kiddos, I'd definitely go with POP. Save AoA when you want to get a Family Suite! Just hop over to check out AoA, I love how the Cars section looks at night!

So I got an email from AMEX regarding my HH that I can earn up to 13x points when shopping on Amazon.

Also had received and signed up for the one for $2000 and get 20k points. And also doing the one for the Exxon spend offer.

Just wondering if all of these can be combined and contribute towards the $2000 spend. Would think so but want to be sure.

How to choose..... My RMN award on my latest Staples buy just posted and I moved to Paypal. I see the offer again in RMN so going to do this again. With the last one I used Hilton Biz with the 10% AMEX offer. I could use CIC for 5x UR. If I do the math - CIC = 75 * 5 =375 points * 1.5 = $5.62 cash equivalent (moved to CSR). 10% AMEX = $7.50 cash. Seems better to stick with AMEX at least until I max that out. Which brings up another question - how do I see how much I have used on that offer? Is there some sort of tracker on AMEX?

Is this in store or online? I am only seeing staples online in my app.

Typically just add the minus amounts on my statement... or however much u spend since u added = whatever amount u need to spend to max out.

FYI, HappyCards work with RMN.

This option is broken on the iOS App.
I was still super annoyed about this yesterday when I was spending over $100 there.

But on a positive note, we now have a Seattles best coffee stand and a ship to store order pickup giant vending machine inside our store. It was awesome! No more waiting forever at customer service to pick up an order!

Has anyone tried to get Chase to match the 50k Marriott points offer for upgrading from the Marriott Rewards Premier card to the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card? I know a lot of folks here took an upgrade offer when the card changed back in May/June. DoC reported Chase Is Matching The 50,000 Marriott Premier Plus Upgrade Offer, referencing the reddit thread here. However, DPs from r/churning report mixed results. Some are reporting Chase saying they will match if you've upgraded within the past 90 days. Might be worth a try.
